whirring noise when coasting

When i'm driving and remove by foot from accelerator i get a whirring noise from my 2004 prius. It seems like it's coming from the engine compartment directly in front of drivers feet. When I start to accelerate or apply brakes it goes away. It started doing this at 50,000 miles and got worse until the dealer fixed it during the 60,000 checkup. Car has 85,000 miles now and noise has started again. How do I fix it?

I thought there's always a whine lol. Anytime you regenerate, there's an elec. motor whine (so that's lifting off the accelerator or pressing the brake pedal).

The whirring is getting louder. Sometimes i wonder if the gas is engine off but still engaged. I do know that this noise went away after the 60,000 mile service. So what did the dealer to to fix it?

Any way you can record the noise? The Prius makes a lotta different noises so it'll help if we can hear what it is.

Hi,

I wonder if you have found the source of the wirring sound?

I myself bought a prius -02 a month ago. A few days ago I heard something that could be described as a "wirring" sound from the engine. Have tried to find someone that has had a similar sound, then i found your post. I am just curious if you have found out what it is. Have you had time to talk to the people who fixed it the last time?

Regards
