Engine Flush
Why would a mechanic suggest an engine flush for a 2006 Prius with 25,000 miles and no problems.
I'm hoping that there's some reason so I don't have to start looking for a new mechanic.
Thanks!

The real reason for needing to flush would be if the engine hasnt been serviced regularly and on time, the other reason which is more likely the mechanic is value adding to his servicing to increase his income.

Engine Flushes are Never necessary
Any mechanic that recommends an engine or transmission flush for a normally maintained engine (oil and filter change per owners manual) is padding the bill. Take a look at the bottom of your oil filler cap. If the bottom is clean and has no oil sludge build up, you're fine.

This is not entirely true. An engine flush is usually recommended when a car is significantly passed the service interval. An engine flush is only used as a maintenance item to remove all of the old oil in the system. If you look at the bottom of the cap and see sludge in there, IT IS TOO LATE. A flush will not remove any sludge what so ever and can in fact loosen up sludge and cause it to clog the pickup. It is in no way designed as a repair
