Will Rav 4 5th Gen get Android Auto?

I love the look of the 5th Gen Rav 4 but I do not want entune, I want Android Auto

If and when Toyota allows Android Auto on the RAV 4 5th gen, would it be via a firmware update or a new head unit in a future year model?

The employee at the Toyota dealership I bought mine from said they are looking at July and it would be a firmware update.

Entune has nothing to do with AA or CP. It's basically a Infoscreen display of a few programs that just pulls the data (music) from your phone to the sound system. You can stream and do the same thing.

Apple Play takes control of the screen and phone, and with Apple Play you can run WAZE as your GPS with up to date info (traffic and weather), real ways to by pass traffic and current POI. All without paying $$$$ for a GPS system. Just make sure you have a big data plan. WAZE is owned by Google.

Toyota was "waiting" on Auto Android, from what the news states, due to the way Google collects information and privacy concerns. Well my 2019 Toyota infosystem collects all kinds of data (amazed there was not a disclaimer from the dealer about the data Toyota collects) as there are all kinds of disclaimers in the 740 page user manual about the data that is collected by Toyota. Toyota has said they will go with AA as an update. Most car companies have already allowed both as young drivers have a choice as to what car to buy, and they want one of these two programs.

My toyota dealer told me no firmware update for 2019 models as he was told this at a meeting. He said 2020 models would get it if Toyota jumps aboard.

If you didn't buy yet, get that in writing!

Seriously, the 2019 RAV4s in Australia are getting free upgrades late this year, per Toyota Australia. But that's a different entertainment system (Toyota Touch) than in the US (Entune). Toyota USA's site has an FAQ that says there are "no plans" for upgrades to existing models. I've heard speculation that Car Play can work with a 1.5A circuit to the head unit, but AA needs 2.5A. IF that's true and it's a hardware thing, then I wouldn't be surprised if there are no upgrades. I haven't verified that last part at all.

Related, Mazda will retrofit CX-5s as old as 2015 for about $500, which includes the hardware upgrade.

I was considering waiting for 2020 late this year, but the threat of large tariffs are making me reconsider.

For whatever it's worth (and not unexpected) here's the response to my inquiry:

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. Inc.

We appreciate your interest in the 2019 Toyota RAV4 and Android Auto.

Toyota strives to offer products and services that match our customers' diverse driving needs, and we continuously evaluate emerging technologies for use in our vehicles. While Toyota continues to to innovate and improve the technology that is included in our vehicles, we have not announced an Android Auto rollout strategy at this time.

Odd that they didn't preclude a 2019 AA upgrade, only that they have not announced their strategy.
