My first post here, introducing the gem I bought 2 months ago: a 1985 Camry, turbo-charged 1839 cc Diesel with 3+OD automatic gearbox (A140L). Great condition, looks like new due to a long stay without being used (flip side: oil consumption a bit high, due to dry joints I guess). Starts immediately, even in the cold. Great fun to drive. Anyone has a similar type of Camry here?

Welcome! I'm pretty sure you're the only one with a gen 1 diesel here. I have a gen 1 liftback that I use for tv and movie work but it's gas.

Wow, that's the first diesel gen one I've seen!!!

So welcome to the nation.

If you need any help with that rare gem let us know, I've got a shop manual and it has a complete section for the diesel motor. I'd be glad to help anytime.

The gen 1 Diesel had some success in Belgium (well at least it was available ) but wasn't even imported in France, which explains why it's rare now. Do you have pictures of your Liftback on this forum?

Thank, I appreciate. I'd love to have a scan of the manual, that would help me a lot. In return, I can scan you my two owner's manuals for the Gen 1: one in Dutch (covering gasoline and 1.8 Diesel), one in French (the latter only covering from December 1985 onwards, means the Diesel is not the 1.8 anymore, but a 2.0 l. Gasoline included). What do you think?

Cheers
Gilles

First post, new to the forum and new Toyota owner, but not new to the beauty that is JDM vehicles. Previous gems include a '91 Honda CRX and my current other car, an '88 Honda Prelude 4WS. Scored this '90 Camry Wagon V6 auto with 156k for $1,800. Rust free, CA vehicle, and only issues thus far are a weak A/C system and a code 52 CEL. Bone stock, and the interior is as clean as the exterior, total steal. Engine bay could use a good douching but other than the knock sensor I'm just gonna tune it up and let it ride.

I had a 1985 Camry Turbo Diesel with a 2.0 swapped from an 86. Had loads of parts as well, traded it for a 2000 Celica GTS and then sold that. If you have any questions or need any info, please message me!
