EGR where are the most common leaks?

I have an exhaust leak in the EGR system. No leak in the upper tube coming into the EGR itself. There are two steel tubes. One feeds into the EGR and an aluminum fixture on the block. The other is a flexible tube that comes out of the aluminum fixture and goes into the exhaust manifold. Just curious which tubes/fixture are most likely to leak? What is that aluminum fixture mounted on the block that the tubes feed into? Thanks in advance for all the advice/suggestions.

I'm very familiar with the I4, but not the V6 system which is a bit different. It has a coolant passage that runs through it to open/close a valve instead of a vacuum switching valve that the I4 has. Anyway, the aluminum fixture you're referencing is the intake manifold (unless I'm misunderstanding you).

How do you know there is a leak? Are you getting a check engine light code? If yes, which specific code is it? P0401 is a common one (at least for the I4).

That aluminum thing on the block sounds like the EGR gas cooler.

When you say leak do you mean into the intake when not commanded or out into the air?

Failed inspection for very slight exhaust leak. Checked the exhaust from the manifold to the muffler. No leaks. It sounds as though it is coming from the engine compartment. This weekend I will get an inspection mirror on the 2 tubes and the gas cooler.
