Unhappy REALLY bad mileage 2000 Camry LE V6

OK, so it's a V6.. 98K miles, purchased at 95K, timing belt at
60K so that's OK, but the mileage is A-TROCIOUS.

Can you say "15 MPG? WTF?!"

Plugs OK, had injectors cleaned, not much improvement.

? Trans problem ? ie slippage?
? Computer problem ?

How can I (or a mechanic) diagnose what's happening, there's
no codes apparent. Did replace front O2 sensor, no help there, either.

I am bummed!

Am in Chicago, North side. Anyone know a GOOD mechanic there?

thanks, guys.

Are you doing a lot of stop and go traffic?
Are you carrying any extra weight in the car/trunk?
How quickly are you coming off the line when the light turns green?
What make/model of plugs do you have in there? What about the the wire set? How old are they? What brand are those?

Besides the engine it could be brakes or the transmission. It may help to get an eBay OBD-II reader for a laptop. It's about $15 shipped and use freeware to check engine performance.

Are you sure the check engine light bulb is working?... Does it light up when the key is first turned to the "ON" position?
