V-LEDS discount recieved in Email today....

V-LEDS 4th Discount of 25%

For those of you looking to buy various LED lights... this came in email today.

Would love to know if you ordered any of these and which ones you plan to replace. I am considering the 921 reverse lights but can't decide on which wattage/style?

That was not the first nor will it be the last site to get hacked - so not really a good reason to avoid that side. Just expect this to get worse before it gets better.

Kia with "smart key" accelerates out of control...

"There was some talk about if she threw the key fob out the window, would the car shut off," Lyon said. "We're trying to look at that so in the future, if this comes up again, we'll have more experience with the key fob or proximity key."

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505245_1...-over-110-mph/

I wish the smart people here would read this article and render an intelligent opinion.

The woman claims that her Kia would not allow her to shift the car into neutral and that when she pushed the "start" button, the engine would not cut off.

And she claims that just depressing the brake pedal did NOTHING to bring the car to a stop.

I'm having a hard time believing this.

After the incident (where her vehicle hit speeds of 120 mph), the car was inspected and nothing was found wrong.

So, I have two questions: How do you turn off a 2012 Camry Hybrid if it starts racing out of control? Will the "push to start" button allow you to turn off the engine if you're rolling down the road?

Secondly, if you turn off the engine, does the steering wheel lock up?

What IS the best way to disable the engine if it's racing out of control?

well, with no disrespect to the beautiful members here - that was a female driver...
so, they tried to undermine Toyotas with bogus self acceleration claims, now they are after Kias?

Shift into neutral?

Just out of curiosity.. A scientist here in Seattle developed s/w allowing him to take over a vehicle, while driving next to it, from his laptop. They could shut down engine, open doors, make vehicle accelerate.

Honestly, I'm having a hard time buying this story. But, the claim is this: The gee-whiz electronics are part of the issue that made the car so difficult to

1) shift into neutral and
2) turn off the engine.

And yet, she finally did bring the vehicle to a full stop using the brakes.

It's a head-scratcher.

toyota's steps to take, in order, are:

1. step on the brakes (but do not pump them)
2. shift to neutral
3. as a last resort, turn off the car by either holding the start button for 3 seconds or pressing it rapidly 3+ times in a row

if you turn it off, you will lose both power steering and power brakes, but will still work with extra effort.

I accidentally cought that video on news yesterday. Well, I seriously doubt, that woman would have ever guessed to shift to neutral.
Why do I start getting feeling of hired actors?

Most people dont even read their owners manual. In my 11 Sonata you push and hold the button for 10 seconds and it will shut down regardless.

Now while in a panic will that get remembered? Who knows.

Its another case of a person driving a car and most likely not qualified to flip burgers. No offense but these stories stink. The one with the Lexus accelerating uncontrollably was pure bunk in my book as well. I have a 2007 Rav as well.

And the Parking brake all the way down barely holds a car on an incline...you cant expect it to stop a car traveling over 100MPH. And it not shifting into neutral...I highly doubt that it didn't do anything. I am guessing she didn't do it.

Thanks for this.

I've read the owner's manual twice - cover to cover - but had forgotten this part.

If the above is the official Toyota policy for stopping an "out of control" car, then I'd guess that they ran this past their engineers before writing about it in the manual.

In other words, you *can* shift the car into neutral while it's still rolling down the road.

I agree with other commenters. It's really hard to believe this woman's version of events.

Where do you buy parts?

I found this Lakelandtoyota.com thought prices where pretty good. They had factory floor mats for $98.00 + shipping no tax out of state. total was $112.00 Printed took to my dealer and they matched price. they wanted $130.00 +tax .Thought it worked out pretty good, every dollar counts. Check them out. 2012 TCH
