T-SB-0001-10 (MIL “ON” DTC P0138 and/or P0158 Diagnostic Tip)
T-SB-0003-09 (Smart Key Intermittent No Crank / No Start)
Some vehicles may exhibit a MIL “ON” Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0138 and/or P0158 (Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage Bank 1 or 2). In some instances a P2195 or P2197 (A/F Sensor Signal Stuck Lean) DTC may also be present. This condition may be caused by incorrect Air Fuel Ratio Sensor response. Additionally, a P0606 (ECM/PCM Processor) DTC may be present due to incorrect Oxygen Sensor operation.
T-SB-0006-11 (World Standard Automatic Transmission Fluid)
Some customers may experience a “no crank” condition or a start and immediate engine stop condition when starting the engine using the “Push Start” switch. A new “Push Start” switch is now available to address this condition.
World Standard (WS) Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) was introduced to reduce maintenance costs and increase the mileage between scheduled maintenance checks. Here are some important tips when working with ATF-WS in Toyota vehicles requiring its use.
T-SB-0010-11 (Front Side Window Glass Rattle Noise)
100,000 Mile Maintenance Interval — Inspection only; ATF-WS does NOT require any flushing
or changing during the life of the vehicle.
• The use of Genuine Toyota ATF-WS is recommended.
• The use of additives or aftermarket fluids that are considered compatible or substitutes
may result in shift concerns and damage to the internal transmission components.
• ATF-WS is NOT compatible with T-IV or Dexron ATF.
• Containers storing Toyota ATF-WS should ALWAYS be sealed — If exposed to the atmosphere,
ATF-WS may absorb moisture and potentially cause shift concerns if used in operation.
T-SB-0027-10 (Noise from Front Window/Door Check)
Some 2008 – 2012 model year Highlander and Highlander HV vehicles may exhibit a rattle, pop, or click noise when operating the driver or passenger front window glass. In some cases, the front window may be found inoperative. This may be due to damaged window mounting tabs, window regulator, and/or loose window regulator mounting bolts..
T-SB-0030-11 (Door Armrest Cracking or Seperating)
Some 2008 – 2010 vehicles may exhibit a condition where the front window makes a popping noise when operating up or down. The pop noise is heard after the window comes in contact with the door check. The door check has been modified to prevent contact.
T-SB-0031-11 (Gear Oil Leak from Front Propeller Shaft Yoke)
Some 2008 – 2011 model year Highlander / Hybrids built in Japan (WMI = JTE) may exhibit a condition where the front and/or rear door armrest cracks or separates. Improved door panel trim assemblies are available to address this condition.
T-SB-0034-13 (Steering Intermediate Shaft Noise)
Some 2008 – 2011 model year Highlander 4WD vehicles may exhibit a gear oil leak from the front yoke of the propeller shaft assembly. The manufacturing process for the front propeller shaft yoke has been modified to address this condition. Please follow the repair procedure to replace the propeller shaft assembly.
T-SB-0047-09 (IG1 Relay Freezing)
Some 2008 – 2013 model year Highlander and Highlander HV vehicles may exhibit a clunk, pop, or knock-type noise when turning the steering wheel left or right. A new intermediate shaft has been developed to address this condition.
T-SB-0047-10 (MIL “ON” DTC P0351, P0352, P0352, P0354, P0355, P0356)
Some customers may experience multiple warning lights illuminated, vehicle not shifting from Park to Drive, and other accessories becoming inoperative after the vehicle has cold soaked in sub-freezing (below 14_F[-10_C]) ambient air temperatures. A newly designed relay has been made available to improve this condition.
T-SB-0049-09 (Moon Roof Auto Close Function Inoperative)
Some 2008 – 2010 model year vehicles equipped with 2GR-FE engines may exhibit a MIL “ON” condition with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354, P0355, or P0356 (Ignition Coil Primary/Secondary Circuit) stored in the Engine Control Module/ECM (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM).
T-SB-0056-09 (2GR-FE No. 2 Idler Pulley Noise)
Some Toyota models may exhibit a condition where the moon roof will not AUTO close (from the tilt or slide position). If either one of these conditions is present, perform the re-initialization procedure in this bulletin
T-SB-0083-08 (Overhead Console Stuck Open)
Some 2005 – 2008 model year vehicles equipped with 2GR-FE engines may exhibit a squeaking noise from the engine compartment while the engine is running.
T-SB-0085-08 (Noise from Auxiliary Port with External Device with Navigation System)
If an oversized object is placed in the overhead sunglass holder, there is a possibility that the sunglass holder may stick in the open position. Use the following procedure to release the sunglass holder and remove any large items stowed in the sunglass holder (conversation mirror showing).
T-SB-0085-10 (Abnormal Radio Operation)
Some customers may notice a noise in the auxiliary mode of their audio system when using an MP3 player or other external audio source connected to the 12V power port on vehicles equipped with the Toyota Navigation System. An improved auxiliary port and in-line filter has been developed to improve this condition.
T-SB-0091-12 (Power Back Door Does Not Close Properly, AKA Bent Hinges)
Some vehicles may demonstrate one or more of the following intermittent radio condition(s): scrambled, unreadable or blank display, or turning ON/OFF by itself. An improved radio has been developed to address these conditions.
T-SB-0094-09 (2GR-FE Engine Ticking Noise and/or MIL "ON" P0014,
Some 2008 – 2012 model year Highlander and Highlander HV vehicles may exhibit a condition where the Power Back Door does not close properly. The Back Door may get to the fully closed position and then reverse to the open position. In cases where the Power Back Door does close, a pop or clunk noise may also be heard when the back door latch reaches the striker during the power close function. In some cases, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B2222 and/or U0230 may be present. Use the following information to inspect the Power Back Door and address this condition.

T-SB-0097-09 (Audio Bluetooth System Outgoing Call Volume Adjustment)
Some 2005 – 2009 model year vehicles with 2GR-FE engines may exhibit a ticking/clicking type noise from the cylinder head cover area which may be accompanied by a MIL “ON” and one or more VVT-i related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
T-SB -0104-11 (Rear Hatch Glass Does Not Close Properly, AKA twisting mount)
When using the audio bluetooth system some customers may mention that the outgoing call volume is too low or distorted. Please use the following procedure to adjust the outgoing call volume to address these conditions.
T-SB-0105-11 (MIL “ON” VVT-I DTCs – Oil Control Valve (OCV)
Some 2008 – 2011 model year Highlander and Highlander HV vehicles equipped with a Rear Lift Up Glass Hatch may exhibit a condition where the Rear Hatch Glass does not close properly. This may be due to one or both of the stay (strut) mount brackets becoming loose and rotating around the fastener that is attached to the glass.
T-SB-0126-08 (Rear Seat No. 2 (Third Row Seat) Operation Improvement)
Some 2005 – 2011 model year 2GR-FE equipped vehicles may exhibit a MIL “ON” condition with one or more VVT-i related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored in the Engine Control Module or ECM (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM).
T-SB-0138-10 (Transmission Fluid or Gear Oil Seepage from Transfer Case Vent (AWD)
Some customers may experience difficulty folding down the rear seat No. 2 (third row seat) while using the seat handle. The following repair procedure has been developed to improve this condition
T-SB-0141-10 (Upper/Lower Windshield/Rear Glass Tick Noise)
Some 2004 – 2009 model year Highlander, 2001 – 2005 model year RAV4, and 2004 – 2010 model year Sienna AWD (4WD) vehicles may display a transmission fluid or gear oil seepage from a vent on the right side of the transfer case. The seepage is from the transfer RH (right-hand) bearing retainer No. 2 oil seal. Production improvements have been implemented to prevent this condition from occurring. Follow the repair procedure in this bulletin to replace the RH bearing retainer No. 2 oil seal assembly.
T-SB-0159-11 (Rust Stain Below Outside Door Handle)
If a creak, tick, or rattle noise is heard at the top or bottom of the windshield, or at the top of the rear glass, the source of the noise may be the two stoppers bonded to the top of the windshield/rear glass, or the windshield retainers bonded to the lower edge of the windshield. This bulletin provides the recommended repair procedure to eliminate these types of noises from the windshield/rear
T-SB-0184-09 (2GR-FE MIL “ON” DTC P0505)
Some 2008 – 2012 model year Highlander and Highlander HV vehicles may exhibit a condition where rust stains develop below one or more of the exterior door handles as shown in Figure 1. An improved door handle nut has been developed to address this condition.
T-SB-0200-10 (False Security Alarm Operation)
Some vehicles with 2GR-FE engines may exhibit a MIL “ON” condition with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0505 stored in the Engine Control Module or ECM (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM). Use the following repair procedure to address customer concerns.
T-SB-0201-11 (Oil Cooler Pipe Seep)
Some 2008 – 2011 model year Highlander and Highlander HV vehicles equipped with a factory theft deterrent system may exhibit a condition where the security horn is inappropriately triggered and the vehicle has not been disturbed.
T-SB-0229-09 (Brake Booster Rattle/Buzz Noise)
Some vehicles equipped with 2GR-FE/FXE towing package engines may exhibit an oil seep from the engine oil cooler pipes.
T-SB-0232-10 (Abnormal Sound from JBL Subwoofer)
Some Toyota vehicles may exhibit a rattle or buzz type noise coming from the driver’s instrument panel area. The noise can be duplicated when lightly accelerating and then decelerating, or when depressing the brake pedal with the shift lever in Park and then releasing brake pedal. An updated vacuum check valve is now available to reduce this noise.
T-SB-0253-10 (Rear AC Vents Loose)
Some vehicles may exhibit a distortion noise from the JBL sub-woofer. An updated JBL amplifier is available to address this situation.
T-SB-0314-09 (HVAC Odor)
Some vehicles may exhibit a condition where the Rear Overhead A/C Vents (Air Outlet Register Sub-Assy) are loose or are difficult to adjust, especially in high ambient temperatures. The Rear Overhead A/C Vents have been revised to correct this condition. Use the procedure in this bulletin to replace the Rear Overhead A/C Vents
T-SB-0335-08 (ATF Leak from Transfer Case)
Some Highlander models may exhibit an intermittent HVAC system odor. A newly designed evaporator sub-assembly has been made available to decrease the potential for HVAC odor.
T-SB-0348-09 (Intermittent No Crank/No Start)
Some customers may complain about a red fluid leaking from the transfer case vent on top of the transfer case or between the transfer case and transaxle. The root cause of this issue is related to damage to an O-ring during the transfer case assembly process allowing automatic transmission fluid (ATF) to enter the transfer case during vehicle operation. Production countermeasures have been implemented at the transfer case supplier. Replacement of the transfer case assembly will be required to repair the vehicle
Some Highlander, Matrix, and RAV4 vehicles may intermittently exhibit a “no crank” condition. The engine can usually be started after moving the shift lever to the Neutral position or by cycling the shift lever in and out of the Park position. A revised neutral start switch assembly is available to address this condition.
