Windshield Wiper Linkage, How...

97 avalon. the wiper arms and plastic are off. Now how do I disconnect the linkage so I can remove it all. Note I had removed the 4 motor bolts and 6 linkage bolts to no net result. Does the linkage just pop off? Should i pop the linkage off BEFORE unbolting things? Not obvious and alldatadiy.com has no info on this.

The Gen1 design must be totally different from Gen2. According to my Gen2 manual, you remove the arms, remove the cowl, then take out 4 bolts, unplug the electrical connector, and lift the motor and linkage straight out. The 4 bolts in question go into the firewall/body on four little legs formed into the housing for the linkage. Two of these standoffs are close to the motor, and the other two are close to the the outward driver (left) end of the linkage housing.

Three bolts or screws then come out of the linkage housing at the motor end, and the motor is free.

Thanks but I had removed the 4 bolts on the motor and it flops around but is still connected to the linkage arm. How do I disconnect from the arm? I expect it snaps off but am asking before breaking. Your thoughts?

The 02 manual says simply to use a screwdriver to remove the linkage from the motor, no details, no drawing.

It is maybe a snap-over connector, popped onto a ball stud, like those at the ends of the gas lift cylinders that hold up the hood?

The offset arm (2 inch long) attaches to the motor with a hex-head bolt so I presume a screwdriver can be used to pop the linkage off the far end. tbd. Ill let you know and a photo. My arm has a squeak.

You remove the dix linkage bokts then you remove the linkage from the motor through the service hole. Then you take out linkage through the hole and if you need to remove the motor you do that last.
