State of the art for aftermarket radio

I just purchased my 3rd Corolla, a 2015 LE. I was bummed to discover that this one has a touch screen with the apparently all-too-common calibration issue (lower half of the the screen is unresponsive).

I did manage to eventually pair my phone, which was the major frustration I was having. But I would still like to replace the factory unit with an aftermarket unit for a few reasons:
  • Frustration free touch screen
  • Navigation on dash without mounting a phone

But I don't want to lose backup camera, steering wheel controls, or any other vehicle features.

I found some older threads related to these concerns. Some mentioned specific products (maestro? ); wiring in an aftermarket camera, splicing into factory camera wiring + voltage change; etc.

What about these days? My car is 4-5 years old now. I'm comfortable with pulling wires and soldering if I need to, but I'd rather just buy adapters / harnesses / interfaces that just work.

I don't have a radio picked out, but I'm a happy Android user and so some Android Auto unit would be the way I'd go. Any recommendations are welcome. Apologies if I've missed a sticky or recent thread about this.

Thanks!

I would automatically direct you to CRUTCHFIELD. There was a receiver from Sony that I was mildly interested in, the [Sony XAV-AX100], Android Auto/Sheeple Carplay, backup camera connection, BT. Sadly, it's been discontinued. There's other units available if you want to give them a go.

Now I'm going to sound like a salesman at this point, but as their customer for 2 cars now, they make custom audio easy. All purchases come with a master build sheet, harnesses and adapters[some might cost extra], and brackets/frames[sometimes costs extra]. Most of the time those come free if the purchase price is pretty high, or if you buy it as a set with speakers or something, but it'll say there if it costs you extra. Point is, it's available in one place, is well built, and comes with instructions SPECIFIC TO YOUR VEHICLE, you don't have to hunt down some harness on ebay and get instructions that "might" work for your vehicle.
