Can I use synthetic ATF for power steering?

Well, I took my Tundra for a oil change. The service dude recommend I change my power steering fluid. I agree with him, it is dark red brown, but I don't agree with the $1,300 quote. I can easily flush it my self. Owners manual states it can use automatic transmission fluid or dexron 3. In my search I stumbled upon synthetic automatic transmission fluid. Can I use synthetic? Also can anyone recommend a good brand to use.

Wink

I've not had any issues with using either a dino or synthetic Dexron III or better ATF fer my power steering system. I've used the expensive Mobil 1 ATF as well as the generic stuff (Supertech) from Walmart. As long as yer keeping an eye on yer fluid condition, you should be able to do just fine.
