I stand corrected. You are 100% correct on the ECO indicator light, it does not do anything but turn the light off for the SE trim. I guess being still new to this car learning how it is setup is a bit tricky. I did notice a HUGE difference when putting the car into drive and then moving the shift to the left in S position. It then shows on the dash screen S4 until you use the paddles. This also turns off the ECO light. That has show the greatest response from dead stop and rolling starts. The only thing I did not see is if it goes through all the gears, it seems to go up to around 4th gear or just a bit more and continues to climb in revs after that.

I just got my SE and am still learning how the sequential shifting works after driving only a manual for the past 8 years. This is what I've gathered so far:

-Leaving the shifter in D and using the paddle shifters does not directly put the car into gear, it only sets the highest gear the car will go into. Clicking down to S3 seems to be the equivalent of shifting a normal automatic from D to 3: It doesn't put the transmission in 3rd gear, only stops it from shifting above 3rd.

-In D, if you don't touch the paddles for about 5 seconds, the transmission will go back to normal D mode and shift normally using all gears.

-The transmission basically stays in the highest gear possible, which can be annoying. Sport mode probably helps with this but my SE doesn't have it. It pretty much never goes down to 1st gear unless I come to a complete stop, so if I'm going under 5mph, sometimes I'll shift down to 1st using the paddle for a better takeoff.

-With the shifter in S mode, it seems to function the same as when you use the paddles, except it does not automatically go back to D mode if you leave it untouched for a few seconds. Putting the car into S at a stop will default to S4.

-Whether using the paddles or the shifter, manually shifting feels slow (I hear this is the case with most cars) but for downshifting it seems a bit faster than just stomping on the pedal and waiting for the transmission to react.

My two cents

Some cars like BMW cut the throttle to avoid skids partially based on sensing wheel speed difference and steering input. It can be frustrating if you are turning onto a highway from a side road and the car pauses momentarily in front of approaching traffic. The Toyota 6 can spin the wheels or more likely one wheel easily during this maneuver but it would sometimes be an undetectable small amount of wheel spin detected by the abs computer, resulting in a throttle reduction. A powerful front drive car is quite likely to spin one wheel on take off and or turning, but I am not sure it would cause a handling or safety problem and I do not know if Toyota does try to reduce it. If they do it could cause a pause and then the late downshift when the transmission finally gets the message.

Would sport mode simulate the same thing?

Not to the same extent and still has lag when using sport mode. Here is my final review after 5 days of use. Worth the money.

Good Review, Thanks.
I am so close to buy this and did some research found out that it was made in Turkey and they have a distributor in Turkey who sells in their currency which makes it half price because of the currency. I will be in Turkey on September and buy it from there.

Any news from those who went on with the transmission reset? Any clear improvement?

The dealer reset my transmission today. The lag is still there...
But I`ll do my best to teach it well

Will post my conclusion after 2-3 weeks.

The pedal commander feels more intriguing after the recent reviews on it!

I did the transmission reset 2 weeks ago and it didn't help at all. I think the hesitation got worse.

I did it and am 600 miles in. Loads better. Still not perfect, but good enough.

I have the V6 XSE and keep the PC set at City +3 and its definitely snappier with smoother acceleration. I hardly ever use the Camry's Sport Mode any more.

1 month update after resetting driver learning algorithms:

Slightly better. Holds gears longer overall, still good gas mileage, less bucking, clunking and thudding, BUT still there.
Accelerating around corners whether from a stop or coasting, or merging onto a freeway from a decent speed is still mental. Takes half a week to get going.
Slightly better reaccelerating in the city from rolling. Sometimes it is stupid and thuds into gear, but less often than before the reset.
*I feel like since reverting back to my regular driving habits after giving the system over 1000km of hard, wide range learning, I think the system is changing to meet my current driving patterns which is what I was worried about.

So all in all, Smitty, thanks a lot for the suggestion, it did help; but it did not FIX the transmission. I think only Toyota can do that. I'm sure they know how, I'm sure they're sweating, and I'm sure they have someone doing the math as we speak as to how much it would cost if they had to fix all our trannys, vs. how much it would cost to fight this all in court. If you don't believe me, recall an American automaker a few decades ago. People were DYING or becoming seriously injured from a flaw. The corporation did the math, and found it was cheaper to remunerate the casualties caused from this faulty part than to do a full-blown recall and fix everyone's vehicles. Guess which path they chose, ever so quietly I might add. We are talking about putting $'s on people's lives. These auto mfgs need to be taken down a peg, or six. Complete BS how much power they have. In our cases, it is a safety concern, has caused close calls for me before and others on here, so it is not as dire as the example above, but it just goes to show what happens when these big wigs get so fat, their lobbyists get too much power, and they stick it to us AND get away with it. Anyone try filing a lemon law lately? Lol...
