Replacing JBL radio system in Highlander with Navi

Hi all,
I just recently bought a 2006 Highlander Hybrid limited that has a radio that is integrated into the navigation system. Although ignorant of it when I purchase the vehicle, it appears this complicates my attempts at installing an aftermarket radio. At this point is there a way of replacing the radio? Crutchfield suggests I am stuck with the stock radio, but I've come across videos of places that have installed aftermarket radios that don't interfere with navigation system/climate controls/etc. I've also searched the internet and haven't found anyone that is selling dash or wiring kits for this particular Highlander (navi+JBL). I'd like to be able to replace the radio myself. Would someone direct me to a source of info or enlighten me concerning my situation? Thanks!

Thanks for posting this, but it appears the conversation is specifically to second gen Highlanders. (And in my searching, I haven't seen anyone discussing the navi+radio combo I have.) I'll post something in that thread and see what response I get. Thanks again for the help. I guess I'm most interested in finding out if there are radios out there that fit the stock dash kit of the 2006 Highlander Hybrid Limited and if the Axxess TYTO-01 Wiring Interface works with this particular situation.

I know it's been forever since you posted this, but I am thinking about buying an 06 with nav and was wondering if you replaced your radio or kept it stock. Thanks, John

I bought mine a couple years ago, and am still hoping to swap out this radio. I would not have bought it if I knew it was this difficult to put a radio in that allows me to at least have an Aux plug. For now I have the FM transmitter, but it is *super quiet* and I have to turn volume up all the way and the audio quality is rather poor. I even put in a nice behind-the-dashboard one, not just a random $15 one from the electronics store.

BT45-TOY. Allows you to keep the stock radio but add Bluetooth, line in, USB charging and hands free phone operation. Might be your best solution. Super easy to install and has been working awesome for me.

Do a web search on it. Lots of threads on TN and Club Lexus.

I don't have nav, but have a highlander with the JBL system - which comes with a stock amp.

My advice: don't do it.

You will have noise that you will not be able to get rid of. I tried a couple different head units, grounding directly to the frame, sanding the frame, noise reducers...nothing worked. Eventually, I put the stock headunit back in.

I'm not a car audio expert by any means, but have installed aftermarket headunits, amplifiers and subwoofers before, and have never had a problem getting rid of noise until this car.
