Cool 91 Shell Nitro DOES make a difference

I know i know...people say that premium does nothing for an engine designed for 87 octane. I was one of them. Some also argue that premium has more cleaning detergents, less ethanol and is a "cleaner fuel".
...My honda xr650l dual purpose with its low 8.3 compression ratio actually will lose power when i run 91 octane in it. It works the best with 87..and the difference is noticable.
...I tried running shell nitro 91 in my pos 07 pontiac wave, and i noticed 0 difference compared to 87. This has the same 9.5.1 compression ratio as the 01 rav4. The shell station i go to is very busy, and their tanks are filled up often. I have been using 87 octane in this rav4 constantly except for 2 times. And both times i can notice a difference. It pulls smoother and there is definatly better throttle response. The Shell Nitro here is 91. I believe in the states its 93. Other than the typical response..." its all in your head ", doe's anyone agree with what i have said?
Thanks

I would agree if there were credible comparative dyno tests or drag strip times using both fuel grades. The "butt dyuo" feeling is notoriously unreliable . .

I noticed no (seat of the pants) difference in performance or mileage (calculated over 1200 miles ) running four consecutive tankfuls of premium through my wife's 2004 3.3L Highlander. And its owner's manual states that premium "may" result in improved performance. If it worked for you, that's great.

Thumbs up True

When I had 2010 Venza V6 and I was 91 octane, I don't find any differences between 87 and 91.

Currently, I am driving 2014 RAV4 XLE AWD.

I always fill with Octane 87 and 3 times at octane 91 (Shell).

At first, I thought it was always in my head that the performance has improved using oct 91. I switched back to 87 and then I noticed the differences. A few months later, I putted 91 and voila! It performance better and better mileage as well. Once more time, I putted 87 and wait til the gas tank go below 1/4 tank. I filled up with 91 and yep! I find the differences!

Maybe your station doesn't dilute the 91 with as much ethanol?

I run Shell Nitro 93 in my V6 Venza and get better gas mileage than with standard 87; not only that, it costs me less. It's been a few years since I did the math and I don't recall the gas prices at the time, but on 87 I was paying 19 a mile and on 93, 17 per mile.
