new to me 04 sequoia limited

Just bought my first Sequoia (owned a 2000 Landcruiser for 13 year, sold it in 2015, still regretting that). So a 04 LTD with 147k, 2 owner and garage kept so very nice for $3,100... only faults are a stuck third row seat (easy repair) and apparently a parking brake dash light that likes to activate on it's own.

My first question is about tires/wheels - the General tires on it need to be replaced before we get to our typical Texas summer heat (about 5/32" left and 3+ years old) - I have two options: My neighbor has a set of newer Sequoia 20" wheels and tires with less than 600 miles on them (Michelin LTX) or I can get new tires from Discount Tires.. and If I buy new tires I'd appreciate recommendations for good "city driving" tires. I do end up out in the country roads on gravel roads occasionally but not mudding or snow.

Looking forward to this ownership.

If the wheels and tires are from a 2008+ Sequoia they won't work. The 2008+ models are 5 lug as opposed to the 6 lug of 2001-2007 models. As for tires, check tirerack.com for comprehensive lists of tires with testing and reviews to find a choice that works well. Tires can be like oil and politics; heavily opinionated.

Here is a good read for model specific questions:

thats wise advice

I have a history of killing ride quality by choosing upgrades that are too stiff, so the 20" wheel increase profile worries me a bit. They are 6 lug wheels off a 4runner put on a 2006 Sequoia for a few months.. Maybe I'll just stick with the OEM 17's. This Sequoia is so well taken care of and rides like a new SUV, I'd hate to mess it up. I'll read thru the FAQ links too. Thanks

The newer 4Runner wheels should fit and ride pretty well. Maybe mount them and drive around to see if you like them.
