Navigation questions?

Can I update the GPS maps myself? I assume the dealer will want a tidy sum. Can I get traffic reports on it like Google maps? I live between Austin and San Antonio, TX.
Lastly, can I connect my phone to the dash display such that the display shows the phone screen? I.e., get Google Maps displayed on the car screen?
Thanks, Dan

Dan, it will help a lot if you provided your model year. Some have limitations beyond fixable.
I know for sure, there is a dongle that allows phone mirroring on nav display. It requires head unit removal and p n p it into the harness.
I am firm that updating OEM nav is waste of time and money. Any smart phone with Waze or Google maps will beat nav hands down. Mof, my smart phone display is about the same size asw factory nav, so strategically located, I don't need to do anything. I use factory nav maybe once a year, just for kicks.

2013 you aren't going to be able to update to anything other than the current version of what's in there ($$$$). There is no provision for integration of the smartphone/waze/google. Best case, you may be able to pull traffic data from your XM subscription.

User "Gadget" has done some mods to his Avalon, including a way to allow a connection to mirror the phone, which in turn allows for the use of Android Auto, as well as any other apps you may want to run.

There is a plug n play adapter that allows to do this. If you go through Google page carefully, you'll find one. That's what some owners at Club Lexus did with older models. After all, they are both Toyotas.

Do I have to pay for map updates?
For Toyota vehicles with Garmin navigation, a user gets 1 year of map updates at no cost.

How much longer will I receive free map updates for?
Garmin Express will display how much time you have left in your subscription.
Not going to still be any good for the older pre-Entune systems.
