Gear Heads,

Looking at these options discussed above for addressing the oil consumption problem, like:

1. Sell vehicle for different generation Toyota:
Resale market value: $700 - 1400 USD

2. Engine Rebuild:
Time: 15 - 25 hours
Cost: $250 - 600.00 USD

3. Buying used 2003+1zz Engine and swap:
Cost: $300 - 900 USD

4. Replacement vehicle while exploring options 1-3.

I think for my current situation, engine rebuilding would be a viable option. It may take a little time and money to get the right tools and equipment needed for a rebuild, but the option sounds logical. Let's see, thinking out loud, the tools and equipment needed for the rebuild of the 2002 Toyota Carolla 7th Generation would include:

1. engine hoist.

2. Pistons, piston wrist pins, piston pin bushings, piston rings, rod bearings, main
bearings.

3. Expansion plugs.

4. Oil galley plugs.

5. Cylinder head gaskets.

6. valve covers, valve cover gaskets, oil pans, oil pumps, and timing covers. Rebuilding existing head:
new intake and exhaust valves, valve springs, rockers, push rods, and associated hardware. You'll need new head bolts in
order to clamp the heads to the block.

7. Checking if the bores are clean and if they need machining.

Product needed and recommended:
Engine Rebuild Kits
Cost: $250 - 500 USD

Does this sound sufficient or am I missing something? Anyone have any input on the where exactly to get the rebuild kit from? Doing a quick search on http://www.google.com I found:
