New format is terrible! The old format was much easier to navigate. Hopefully my other forums don't do the same. They should have at least done a "classic mode" so those of us that hate this format could continue to use the old style. I haven't been on here that long, but based on this...
  2. Does anyone have pics of the coolant block drains?

    Avalon 3rd Generation (2005-2012)
Check the illustration in this thread: https://www.toyotanation.com/forum/122-highlander-2nd-generation-2008-2013/625602-draining-coolant-block.html It's for a Highlander, but the drains should be in the same locations (under the exhaust manifolds). Cheers!
  3. Konig Ampliform wheels

    Camry 5th and 6th Gen '02-'11, Solara '04-'08
Not that I know for sure, but I'll go out on a limb and say that NO, it will not fit without modifying something (that is a large and very wide wheel). Cheers!
  4. Good brand for Catalytic Converter?

    Camry 5th and 6th Gen '02-'11, Solara '04-'08
Forget the antifouler. Just bite the bullet and get a new CAT. On my Honda, I used a Walker (California certified since I live in Cali, yay) and the fit was perfect. After my engine, which burned a quart of oil every 350 miles, trashed it after 60k miles I tried a Cali-certified Easter...
  5. Cost of having a shop replace wheel bearing compared to whole hub assembly?

    Camry 5th and 6th Gen '02-'11, Solara '04-'08
Other than the extra cost of parts (bearing vs bearing and hub) it shouldn't cost any more in labor. Technically it should be a little less labor with replacing the hub since they would no longer have to press apart the old bearing and old hub (but they'll probably charge the same). Cheers!
  6. Fixing Oil Burning for 2004 Camry 180K Miles

    Camry 5th and 6th Gen '02-'11, Solara '04-'08
New or engine rebuild time! At that oil usage rate, the CAT is not going to last long (my Honda used about the same and a new CAT lasted about 2 years or about 60k miles).
  7. Installing a 2002 Japanese built Camry engine into an American built Camry

    Camry 5th and 6th Gen '02-'11, Solara '04-'08
Just so it's clear, which sensor is being used on the new (Japanese) motor? What harness and ECM are being used with this motor? If you are using the existing (American) harness and ECM with the American knock sensor and you are getting the DTC for that sensor, the sensor itself could be bad...
  8. Installing a 2002 Japanese built Camry engine into an American built Camry

    Camry 5th and 6th Gen '02-'11, Solara '04-'08
If the threads from the Japanese sensor bolt match the threads on the American sensor, just screw the American sensor in and hook it up. The American sensor looks like it has straight threads (not tapered). Cheers!
  9. Abs speed sensor

    Avalon 3rd Generation (2005-2012)
I would doubt that 3 out of 4 sensors would go bad at once. Anything else going wonky with dash lights, A/C, gauges, etc? Alternator charging OK (not too high of voltage or too low)? It could also be the ABS module, but I would see if you can diagnose more before replacing it. When the module...
  10. 2011 Toyota Camry Evaporator Replacement

    Camry 5th and 6th Gen '02-'11, Solara '04-'08
Do a real good inspection of the condenser. On my son's 2007, I did the dye test and I could just faintly see two 1" spots of "glow" on the condenser fins. There was no real obvious damage to it. Replaced condenser, pulled a vacuum on the system (no leaks), and refilled with the specified...
  11. Time for new front pads and rotors, 07 XLS, recommendations...

    Avalon 3rd Generation (2005-2012)
I've had excellent success with Bosch QuietCast Rotors, Bosch QuietCast Ceramic pads w/hardware, and all new Caliper pins and bushings (and of course good ceramic brake grease). Just did all 4 wheels on my son's 2007 Camry (brakes are excellent now, smooth as silk). Cheers!
  12. Can't remove stripped drain plug

    Camry 5th and 6th Gen '02-'11, Solara '04-'08
The right stuff should work fine. I used it on a 2007 Camry oil pan. Let the oil drain when the pan is off for awhile. Get the sealing surface as clean as possible and make sure there is no oil seeping down onto the surface. I use some brake cleaner to get anything off just prior to putting...
  13. multiple electrical issues occurred simultaneously

    Avalon 3rd Generation (2005-2012)
I agree with Old Mechanic. Bad grounds can cause lots of weird issues. This is probably not your issue, but on my 2008, I had the ABS light illuminate, the entire information display (HVAC display, fuel mpg/range, etc) go out, radiator fans not work (and some other stuff I'm probably...
  14. 2007 Avalon Wipers Jump & Noisy Help Please?

    Avalon 3rd Generation (2005-2012)
The Bosch Icon wipers got rid of the problem on my 2008 Avalon. They are now 3 years old and starting to chatter again, so it's time for new ones (surprised they lasted that long). Cheers!

Also new here! The current fleet is listed in my signature and as you can see we put plenty of miles on them. Not listed are a 2002 Honda Civic (365k) and a 1997 Ford F250 4x4 (202k). I am a forum vet (mostly on 7.3L Ford Powerstroke diesels), so I should have any issues navigating around. My...
