    Camry 1st and 2nd Gen (1983-86) and (1987-91)
That's where my last one went out as well - not too bad of a job thankfully. Congratulations on the new additions to the family!

  3. 1990 Camry ALL TRAC Rear Struts?

    Camry 1st and 2nd Gen (1983-86) and (1987-91)
I've got the Ground Control coilover conversion kit. I'm not especially impressed, but it does work, and (from talking to other people) it seems like maybe I got a bum set. IIRC there are some minor differences between the upper part of the shock shaft (Celica Alltrac <-> Camry Alltrac). I...
  4. End of the road

    Camry 1st and 2nd Gen (1983-86) and (1987-91)
Sorry to hear that Phil! I always thought yours looked great. I hate to say it but I think a lot of us are probably in the same boat - the lack of rust is definitely helping keep mine afloat. Its too bad they didn't sell the Yaris GRMN in any real numbers or on this side of the pond.. Anyway...
  5. 87 Camry Strut Replacement question

    Camry 1st and 2nd Gen (1983-86) and (1987-91)
In the front there is a stamped part that fits between the bearing/upper strut mount and the spring. You should be able to reuse it. It's #8 in this image. It looks like its part of the spring pad/insulator in the rear. (#12) I'd guess that you'll probably need to replace that.
  6. What did you do to your Gen1/Gen2 Camry today?

    Camry 1st and 2nd Gen (1983-86) and (1987-91)
Replaced the front brake hoses and did a full bleed today. Was definitely time to replace the fluid so I'm glad I did it. I used Sunsong hoses from RockAuto... They're ok. They used a slightly different pattern on the hexagonal lip that keeps the line from rotating - it does fit but not super...

Hey y'all, hope everybody has been doing good. I've been busy with other things for the most part recently, although I'm slowly working on putting an ECU together for the Camry - when I finish it in ten years time I'll make a thread about it. The suspension is still holding up - but I haven't...
  8. Misfire at idle related to oil leaking from distributor?

    Camry 1st and 2nd Gen (1983-86) and (1987-91)
I think its well accepted that these cars like the copper plugs. There are two o-rings for the distributor - one external and one internal. The distributor rebuild isn't too hard but you'll need some way to drive/press the pin out of the end of the distributor shaft. I used a small shop press...
  9. Urgent - Brake Fluid Leaking Under Drives Door

    Camry 1st and 2nd Gen (1983-86) and (1987-91)
At the very least I would consider inspecting the lines thoroughly - especially so if the hole did not appear to be from jack damage.
  10. Code 26

    Camry 1st and 2nd Gen (1983-86) and (1987-91)
EGR reduces combustion temperatures which will cut NOx production - I could definitely see that making a difference. The cat affects NOx emissions as well, but I'd imagine you'd have elevated levels of all three types of emissions if you had problems with your cat.

The spacer part number is: 90561-17002. The service bulletin doesn't have a useful ID number but its in Volume 10 - Reference Suspension Number 006 dated 02-09-90. It says the cam design was discontinued in January of 88.

Oh man did I never post an update? :( Honestly I'm just glad the whole thing is behind me. I found a car in a yard a few hours away, had a friend go and get the part, and then had them mail it to me. If your local yards use I'd highly recommend it, super useful. PM me a VIN and I can...

    Camry 1st and 2nd Gen (1983-86) and (1987-91)
Hey Mitch, I'd say its a good choice for a first car. OBD1 will hopefully let you build some confidence with ECUs without dealing with a very picky one, and the platform is pretty easy to work on IMO. Performance wise - a new set of spark plugs, fuel filter, and air filter (don't bother with...
