When you choose the rotor, they have different coatings. The coatings on the rotor will dictate the type of pad. Not all pads are created equal. Some will make more noise too. If on a budget, look at Amazon.
General rule of thumb, at least for me, is to buy the correct pad for the rotor...

IMHO, it's very hard to tell how old the trans fluid is without any maintenance records.
It is a great idea to drain and fill the trans since this is an unknown. GL4 or GL5 should be good to use, but double check the owner's manual for confirmation. It should also list the fluid capacity too...

My offset on the Corolla xrs is +45. Matrix is smaller. +42 IIRC for the xrs. Matrix base and XR is +36.
It may not clear the rear disc since xrs doesn't have the drum brakes like the other trims. The AWD matrix may have disc too. I don't know though.
