  1. Burned seat

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Good suggestions and am working on them. The burned places were quite hard and stiff-- only the fabric nap was burned, not holes burned through. I did find at Hobby lobby some Tulip brand silver fabric paint for about $1.80. Wife says the seat looks a bit better now. But the paint is not a great...
  2. Burned seat

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
1998 Camry LE with gray cloth upholstery. Passengers of the previous owner dropped cigarettes and burned really black places on the seat bottom cushion. The cars at the wrecking yard have been exposed to the weather from broken windows, missing doors, etc.. Would welcome suggestions for making...

The original post was mine. Mention of lawsuits were by others, not me. Took screenshot (from computer) of the notice that I had won sandwich (as the coupon said). With the printout of that and the coupon off the cup, I stopped at a BK. Cashier said that the prize win was completed by going to...

Bk complaint phone number is useless, as already stated. And they have no web complaint address that I could find. BUT they do permit feedback after one visits a restaurant and uses the code on the register receipt. So I found my receipt and did the complaint on that site. We'll see what...

BK no longer puts their coupons in the mail that comes to my address.

It is widely believed that posting complaints about businesses on social media, Facebook being an example, is one of the most effective ways to get prompt response from the business. I don't do Facebook. BK has a promotion "Go Gift Yourself". The peel-off on the drink cup has notice of the next...
  7. 2001 Solara problem...HELP

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Should you decide to try the gas line antifreeze, read the bottle carefully to determine the type of alcohol it contains. The more prevalent and cheaper is methanol-- I will NOT put that in any of my vehicles. Isopropyl alcohol is by far the better choice. The bottles are typically red and...
  8. Remote door lock/unlock

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Own a 1999 Camry and 2 of the 1998, all purchased used. None came with a remote fob. Probably none of these ever had that feature. But suppose that one did and the fob was never passed on to a buyer when the original owner sold the car? How could I determine if any of my cars did have the remote...
  9. P0401 and P0446 - Story Time with a Happy Ending

My favored independent shop wants to work on the Camry with the engine cold. His shop is about 9 miles from my house. So the inconvenience and distance to take it there and leave it overnight-or longer- are significant. Plus sales tax is charged on the total of the bill. Working on it at home...
  10. Lifespan of a 2.2 Camry starter?

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Probably mileage is not a reliable predictor of starter life. To illustrate, UPS requires their drivers to stop the engine and remove the keys on every stop, then restart when they return to the vehicle. Those starters will require repair at much lower mileage than on a vehicle driven 60 miles...
  11. Robocalls

    Off Topic
Have declined to use some of the tools available to reduce robocalls. None of my existing 7 phones have caller ID feature and subscribing to that service plus replacing all my phones is not low bucks. Noticed that most robocallers do not leave answering machine messages-- so one technique is to...
  12. Will led headlights work well in a 92 camry?

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Your reflectors were designed for filament lamps. LEDs are entirely different and require very different reflectors. As best I recall, we studied reflectors in analytic geometry. I suspect that using LEDs in filament reflectors will yield very poor results. Filaments are roughly "point sources"...
  13. What is the cause for 1999 Camry not starting on first attempt?

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Have a shop check the fuel pressure after letting the car sit overnight at their shop. This condition, on a different make of car, was recently on South Main Auto on YouTube. .
  14. 1998 2.2

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
The trans was flushed by a local trusted shop about 20K miles ago. Fluid looks perfect. The selector was in "D". Normal in the posted photo shows 68-75. The normal performance and fuel mileage lead me to believe that camshaft timing is correct-- but who knows? Upshift is immediate if I lift...

Here is the scene: ON ramp on the Interstate, getting in sync with the good opening in traffic. Floorboard the throttle and the car shifts into "passing gear", revs up to about 5800 rpm and about 65 mph. The thing waits a couple of seconds to upshift to travel faster. Thus the acceleration for...

Must admit that I did not verify the material of the parts-- they look like bright copper. Within the next few days, I will file one of the parts to verify that the parts are solid copper-- or not.

The no-name, cheap parts I bought seem to be the same gauge material as the originals. Dimensions were accurate. Mine were purchased on eBay and shipped from China. It is very possible that the original Toyota parts were of non-USA, non-Japan origin.
  18. Starter

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Replaced the contacts in one today. The side contacts bolted in did have much more arcing damage than the ring on the solenoid armature. The ring did appear to have usable copper remaining compared to the new one. The damage to those parts is arcing rather than corrosion. One of the bolted...

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Yes, the plunger has a contact ring that burns away with use. Using the old plunger insures very short life before contact failure.

    Camry 5th and 6th Gen '02-'11, Solara '04-'08
This forum deals primarily with Camry through 2001. The forum for Gen 5 might be more helpful for your car.
