  1. 5SFE Motor Mount How-to

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
That's strange -- toyodiy.com shows the same mount (bolt from the top) for the both the US-made and JPP 1999 Camrys. Assuming the mount was OEM, what was the part number? Not sure what the risk would be. Since Toyota deliberately used a threaded stud & nut in the rear, and a bolt in the...
  2. Howdy! New Prius owner

    Prius 3rd Gen - Hybrid (2010-2015)
Just figured I'd say howdy -- wife just picked up a 2014 Prius 2 (dealer only wanted 19340 for it -- seemed like a pretty decent deal, even for a low-end rig). I've been a long-time member over on other TN forums, having 1995 and 2008 Camrys and a 2002 Sequoia, but this is our first venture...
  3. Sudden Really Loud Banging/Tapping/Knocking Noise from Passenger Side of Motor

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
I'd take a closer look at that water pump and timing belt before jumping the gun on a new motor...rods don't normally pop out the front of the motor.
  4. for how long did your drive belts last?

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Just changed the original drive belts on my 95 5S-FE a couple months back (115K miles and an awful lot of years). At least one was a Mitsuboshi.
  5. rpm cycling

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Before you spend $$$ on a coolant temp sensor, just disconnect yours after the engine is warmed up. That causes the ECU to default to "engine warmed up" (it'll also turn your CEL on, but it'll go away again once you reconnect). If the problem goes away, have at replacement. FWIW, I don't...
  6. Iridium spark plugs question.?

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Lots of folks here running the NGK Laser Iridium and Iridium IX in both the 1MZ and 5S. Haven't heard of any problems. Haven't heard of any particular improvements, either.
  7. multiple checkengine codes- help!

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Those codes pretty much imply you've got an air leak downstream of your MAF sensor. Could be in the main hose between the MAF and the throttle, or could be a disconnected, holed, cracked, or loose vacuum hose. Check your main air instead hose connection and hose between the MAF and the...
  8. I've ran out of cuss words... I'm so frustrated!

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
How'd you get the original belt off? Was it broken, or did you cut it off? 'cause I don't see enough clearance behind that motor mount to slip a belt through. If those bolts on the mount aren't any worse than you show in the picture (just the corners rounded off), you might be able to jack...
  9. I've ran out of cuss words... I'm so frustrated!

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
??? Who in hell wants to work on a hot engine? Not gonna loosen up the bolts enough to matter. Those bolts weren't rusted -- jacking the engine enough to get a decent 6-point socket on there, rather than coming in at an angle with a twelve-point closed-end (or worse, an open-end) wrench, and...
  10. rpm cycling

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Probably should address the high idle first. May or may not be related to the hunting. Most likely cause of a high idle is a vacuum leak -- one of the hoses connected to the throttle body is disconnected, cracked / holed, or fits too loosely at the connections. Check the vacuum diagram on...
  11. Mass Air Flow Sensor or Not

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Reading the codes on a '92 involves jumpering a couple of contacts with a paper clip and watching the check-engine light blink out the code. But if the CEL ain't on, there ain't a code to read nohow.
  12. A/C Question 92 camry

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Where's the noise coming from? Under the hood near the compressor? Inside the car? What sort of noise? Clicking / ticking, knocking, hissing, or something else? How loud? Drowns out the music? Have to have the music off to hear it? Something in between?
  13. I've ran out of cuss words... I'm so frustrated!

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Removing the engine gets you full access to the motor mount that's blocking access to the tensioner. That gives you more options for removing that mount -- the easiest of which are to chisel the bolt heads off and then back the remaining bolt out with vise-grips (with the heads removed and...
  14. need to remove oil pan for oil pump?

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
If it's clean, you certainly could reuse the timing belt, but I'm not quite sure why you'd want to -- timing belts are inexpensive, it's halfway through it's rated life and this way you wouldn't have to open it up again for another 60K. If it's heavily oil contaminated, I'd definitely change...
  15. 95 Camry 4 cylinder, Oil leak found, need help identifying.

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
I'm disappointed -- you didn't do the oil cooler o-rings and the rear main. :D Nice work. BTW, you must've just had the timing belt done recenty -- the front of the car didn't even wiggle when you bumped the starter.
  16. Stomped And I Need Help

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Is the temp gauge reading bogus (i.e. is the coolant outlet on the engine hot as hell, or not)? Assume this is a false reading, I'd check your ground straps to the engine, especially if you've had the engine out of the car recently. Have you been dinking around with the electrical system recently?
  17. Mass Air Flow Sensor or Not

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
You've got a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor. Real unlikely that part is a problem -- they're nearly bulletproof. When's the last time (if ever) you cleaned your throttle body and idle air control valve? The IAC has a history of getting gummed up from blow-by after a while, and can...
  18. Cam belt one tooth off, runs fine though....

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
If you look closely, the notch on the housing looks to be about the same amount off as the two match marks up above...otherwise you wouldn't be able to see the notch in the picture. Sure looks like the timing belt's already been replaced, and it's a tooth off. Tensioner idler and spring look...
  19. 96' Camry... coil 'spark' with engine off

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
1996 is when they went to OBD2 on the 5S-FE, and a lot of things changed...among other things they added the cam and crank sensors, and the distributor was no longer mechanical (there is no mechanical connection from the camshaft to the dizzy). I think the '96 still had a single coil, but I'm...
  20. Camry FAQ page not loading

    Camry 3rd and 4th Gen '92-'01, Solara '99-'03
Are you running AdBlock or something similar? If not, you should be. This site is so bloody ad-heavy all it takes is one broken ad to screw up page loading.
