  1. Excessive Engine Vibration at Idle

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
I too have this problem with my car, although the vibration isn't excessive. I've changed all the mounts and it's still there. The engine runs smooth. One of those things that I'm going to have to live with I guess..
  2. My 1998 Corolla finally died.

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
If the body isn't good, may I suggest you purchase one with a good body, but tired engine? Fit your engine in the donor car, and you'll have a decent car once again for years to come.
  3. Valve Cover Gasket - What are these little grommets?

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
I believe the grommets are there to prevent over-tightening, although there should be six of them, not just two.
  4. Engine Swap Bad Idea? Water Damage?

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
It is always good practice to wash the engine/trans/bay before doing work on it in any way. I can't see a picture of your seal, but if you think you've damaged in any way, change it now that you have a good opportunity to do so. Is your car water damaged? Only you can answer this. If the tarp...
  5. Fob & immobiliser help needed

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
Very strange at the fact that they can't obtain a replacement fob, even without the old one. Anyway, try this: Switch everything else off and leave the ignition on for around 30 minutes. That should disconnect the immobiliser.
  6. 01 Corolla shifting early

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
It may help, especially if it's been a while since services, although I suspect there's more going on. Check and adjust accelerator cable and kickdown cable if you observe noticeable slack.
  7. Bad vibes

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
    Thank you.
  8. Bad vibes

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
I see. So this is more a case of trial and error then? I was hoping not to have to change all of them, but....
  9. Bad vibes

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
Hello everyone. I've been ramping up work on my Corolla lately, and the next port of call has been to eliminate the vibration which occurs at idle, once the revs drop down to normal, after the engine has reached operating temperature. The mechanic who inspected the vehicle for a roadworthy when...
  10. HardtopTE72 1ZZFE Swap Tips Thread - Everything You Wanted To Know!!!!!!

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
From what I've read, fitting a Camry engine in an AE110 is possible, but requires work on the engine/trans mounts, and is not a bolt-on affair. A better proposition would be a black or silver top 20V, or a "Frankenstein's monster" 7A-FE.
  11. Can I install a newer oem alarm syste on a 8th gen Corolla?

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
Honestly, I don't see the point. You'd need a wiring diagram, otherwise it'd be like shooting in the dark. On top of that, you're purchasing a second-hand alarm for which I doubt there's a guarantee. I'd opt for an aftermarket car alarm. Preferably a two-way type. I have one in my Probe, and...
  12. hazard lights not working

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
The only thing I can think of is a faulty multi-function switch.
  13. Drivers Side Window won't work (98 Corolla)

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
If it's only the driver's side, it's more than likely either the switch, or the motor itself. A less likely problem would be the wiring.
  14. Hesitating, stumbling and stalling-beyond frustrated with my car!

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
That definitely sounds like a crank sensor, given that it it governs timing advance, fuel metering etc. Shame you have to take it to a dealer. I hope you sort it out one way or another.
  15. Hesitating, stumbling and stalling-beyond frustrated with my car!

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
Hello. I may be late with this reply, but my other car which is a Ford Probe GT was doing the same thing as you described, as well as popping from the exhaust, and an overly rich mixture. At first I thought it was the distributor, so I fitted a new one. It ran fine fore about five minutes, then...
  16. Old vs New.

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
I see. Thanks for your help and advice, mate.
  17. Old vs New.

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
AE 112, bug eye, November 1998 hatch.
  18. Old vs New.

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
I see. Thank you for the info...and haha. You're correct. I put Ascent instead of Conquest. I recently bought it back off my nephew who didn't really want it, and assumed it was an Ascent.
  19. Old vs New.

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
For the life of me, I can't remember. It does seem a bit excessive I guess, but I was thinking it would have been something like different ECU parameters and a compression lift.
  20. Old vs New.

    Corolla 8th Generation (1998-2002)
Hello all. It's been quite a while since I've posted here, and thought I'd ask a question regarding power plants. I've been told that the circa 93 7AFE engines develop 100kw, whereas the 7AFE in my 98 Corolla only develops 85kw. What differences are there between the two, to justify the 15kw...
