Howdy, not sure if I’m doing this right but I’ve had a strange issue. Keep in mind I’m new to trying to work on my car. My 2005 Toyota Camry (Base 2.4L) has had an Evap system related check engine light with a bunch of similar P04 codes since I bought it used, I went ahead and replaced the...

My 1997 Camry V6 has codes P0401 and P0402. The VSV for EGR valve (part 90910-12174) passes the 9V battery test, it clicks when power applied to terminals. I blew into the in port and when I connected the 9V the air flow out switched from one out port to the other out port. What do I test next?

Hey all, my 88 22re had a code 25, seemed like it was time for a new 02 anyway, picked up a ngk and it ran wonderful for about a day, now I'm having a rough idle and missed power. not sure if related but I've been trying to figure out how the PO had the vsv's hooked up because as far as I can...

I cut open a gas tank and EVAP canister to see what’s inside and how it works. I made a short video on the process, you can check it out here: Here are a few photos of the teardown: The EVAP canister is located behind the gas tank: The gas tank is held on by two straps. Boy was there a lot...

On my '98 camry 5SFE both hoses were disconnected from the VSV, are they interchangeable? That is does the VSV work the same way in both directions? I was able to re-mount the VSV bracket by changing the bolt for a stud + split-lock washer + nut, makes this blind operation much easier.

I replaced the canister and the vsv by the air box. I still have p0446. I was hoping someone can help me with this issue. Possibly post some pictures of how the evap canister is supposed to be connected correctly. I think that is where i messed up. Thank you. I'd appreciate anyones help.

So i have a 1999 toyota camry, and came up with a P0401 code. ive cleaned out the EGR valve, and tested the modulator, so i believe the issue is the vsv. After a few useless attempts to remove the old vsv, i decided i would just remount the new one on the firewall, and leave the old one. However...

Got the p0401 code and the car stutters when stopped and the lights flicker. I have checked: Intake manifold cleaned and cleared egr ports Check vacuum lines Egr valve has been cleaned and check with vacuum pump for valve function and also while the car is running which stalls when vacuum is...

All, This is a 1995 DX 3.4 Auto with Auto Disconnect Differential Using the shift lever, 4WD will not engage. The dash light does not light up in any position except for "AWD Neutral". I have verified the following: -Vacuum lines are in good order and routed properly -VSVs fall within...

2001 4 cylinder throwing these three codes. Replaced the gas cap as no vacuum escaped when unscrewing it. Code reset lasted about a week. Still no whoosh when opening the new cap. Which is more likely: a bad VSV at the tank or a rusted fuel filler neck (Kansas; not sure it really counts as...

Having followed the guide to flushing the coolant this weekend, I became well aware of the poor noise isolation toyota has on the VSV at idle the constant tick tick tick tick tick tick tick - it's very annoying Does anyone have a write up with photos for newbies to try to fix the isolation? I...

I'm checking out an EGR code P0401 on a Toyota Camry 1996 2.2L 4 cyl. Found great info on line re how to test, how it operates but from what I read and see it appears on this vehicle the only wired connection to this system is the VSV valve that switches Vac on to EGR from modulator. Saw some...

Hello, I was curious if anyone has run into this. We are working on my friends 91 Tercel 3EE. The smog shop has failed the car because the EGR is not stalling the motor when the smog tech operates the EGR (either by vacuum pump or manually lifting and unseating the valve. The smog tech said the...

Engine pull story. Replace rear main. Useful pics. 56k warning 344,85X miles, 1997 5s-fe, original Camry LE. The car I learned how to drive in. So I recently pulled my motor so i could swap out my rear main seal. It wasn't leaking a whole lot but I decided to do it as a last hurrah project...

I read a couple of times to make sure the ground wire for the EGR VSV is not loose, but I didn't see any photos as to where this ground is. I do have a ground wire coming out of the wire bundle behind the valve cover on the passenger side, which has two ground terminals (shock tower, engine...

Hello! Trying to fix P0446 error code. I'm having problem getting to the VSV on the charcoal canister in my 1998 Camry XLE v6. In this car canister is located in the engine compartment. Do you have any tricks on how to get to that little thing? I want to just unplug it first and test with 9V...

Howdy guys, recently began to get the p0401 code on my 1999 toyota camry (4 cylinder standard), and I'm already over inspection so I need to get this fixed quickly. Anyway I went through the diagnostics set out in Haynes manual and my egr valve holds vacuum, modulator seems to be fine. So I...

Hi, Forgive my ignorance....I've got the dreaded intermittent P401 code. From what I have read I need to replace the VSV. I think I have found it at Advanced Auto, but they are calling it a EGR Control Solenoid. Part number EGR 287 at the store...

I have had the check engine light on my car(1998 Toyota Camry 4cyl 2.2L) for a while now, and just recently I decided to take the time to fix things up. So I bough a code reader and got P0401 which is EGR Insufficient. I reset it just for the heck of it. About 20 miles later it came back on...
