Good afternoon all,

Recently I removed my 2.4 engine to address the oil consumption situation. Every 400 miles I would have to put a quart in the engine. I’m sure this is a popular issue and has probably been addressed but I am in need of some help. Motor was in great running condition with 130K miles. I wanted to do the project for learning experience with a friend so that’s why I decided to take the challenge. I have taken block to machine shop due to some cylinder liner damage. It will need to be bored out to either .10 or .20. I bought a kit from Toyota to rebuilt the engine. Came with gaskets and piston rings. The pistons obviously will only work on stock engines. Once the machine shop fixes the block I will need bigger pistons. Does anybody know a place where I can buy oversized pistons with the “new design” where the piston holes are drilled in a downward motion? Thanks for your help.

I would suggest asking the machine shop or checking on the Scion TC forums since the TC is gonna have a lot more aftermarket support than the Camry even though they have the same engine.

Does anyone know If the pistons from 06-13 four cylinder Toyota RAV4 fit my 02 four cylinder Camry engine? I am trying to buy the Camry ones but they are on back order. My understanding they have the same engine and bolt right up just wasn’t sure and wanted to know if anyone else knew before I bought them.

Any good machine shop would not bore the cylinders until pistons are in hand....too many ooops...I thought that.....
Many different sizes available .20 .30 .40 take your pick...do a little surfing/investigating. Ask machine shop what size you need according to the worst cylinder

Again make sure they put inserts in for the head bolts. They are a known issue.

You should be sourcing the pistons from the machine shop doing the block work. Only they can tell you what you’re gonna need.

I still have the same opinion as in your other post. If the machine shop can not source the correct pistons you need to find a machine shop. Because obviously the shop you chose isn't capable of doing the job.

Are you sure it even needs bored? I've rebuilt more than a handful of these motors with a simple ball hone job and new NPR rings. Even with a few wear ridges in them, never an issue with oil consumption. As others have mentioned, make sure the shop time serts the block to take care of the thread issues prevalent on these cars. If it absolutely needs pistons, I prefer the NPR(made in Japan) brand over the chinese junk that's out there.
