HI!

Our 03 Corolla CE just threw a check engine light for the first time, so I had the codes run and it came up with codes P0300-P0304, which are cylinder misfires.
We just had a tune up done today, and I was wondering if the light would clear on its' own, or if I can clear it.

THANKS!

Oh, boy it could be a lot of things. Could the mechanic have messed up when he replaced you spark plugs during the tune up or did you get the CEL after you took it to the mechanic? You should have used Denso or NGK Iridium plugs. How is your gas mileage (could be bad injector), does your car hesitate? Do you burn any oil? Might need a compression test if you burn oil. Where did you get gas last, is it likely there could have been water in the gas?

Ooops, I think I need to clarify my first post:

The check engine light came on on Monday. Because it read as cylinder misfires, and because it was due anyway, I had a tune up done today. I know they used platinum plugs, but I have no idea of the brand. I don't think the gas was an issue, but I am pretty sure the car is due for regular maintenance type stuff since it just hit 100,000 miles (yes, we travelled a lot.) :)

Its just like if you do a motor oil change on your own. You have to reset the ECU so that you dont get the service engine soon popping out. Just reset it and if the spark plug tune settled it the CEL light should not pop out anymore.

There is an easier way to reset the maintenance required light after an oil change:
1). Be sure odometer reading is shown (not trip meter)

2). With the ignition key in the "OFF" position, press and hold the trip meter reset knob while turning the ignition key to the "ON" postion.

3). Continue holding the trip meter reset knob for about 5 seconds. The odometer should read "000000" and the "MAINT REQD" light should go out.

Toyota does require iridium plugs, however, I do not think that using platinum will continue to show the misfire codes.
