I was driving my van down the road and all the sudden it just dies. No smoke, no hesitation, no nothing out of the ordinary. I tried to start it back up and it made a whirring sound, then acted like it wanted to start but wasn't getting fuel. Replaced the fuel pump to no avail, ended up getting it towed to a shop. They said timing belt slipped (needed replaced anyhow) and all was good to go. Something seemed odd at first but I assumed maybe it's just the new belt making it seem different. 3 days later was driving down the road when all the sudden the temp gauge shot up, engine light came on and the van died. Now when i go to start it all i get is the whirring sound, not trying to turn over. So my question is, what could possibly be wrong and could the repair shop be on the hook for fixing the problem????

Very possible it could be the water pump. How many miles do you have on your Sienna? A good rule of thumb is when changing the timing belt the water pump is also changed out at the same time whether it's showing symptoms of failure or not. Some water pumps last longer, others shorter periods of time, but typically they last about as long as the timing belt and you have to remove the timing belt to get to them anyway so for lower cost and misery the two are often done together.
