I am about to complete the buy back of my 1999 Tacoma - perforated frame issue - and I'm looking at another used Tacoma, 2004. Wondering if the '04 still has accelerated rusted frame problem? I know the notice mentions 1995-2000 but I'm still wondering if anyone has had the same problem with any later year trucks? I live in Maryland and they salt the hell out of the streets here. Thanks.

I am almost 100% sure the rust issue was extended to the 2001 through 2004 tacoma's as well. I know there is a TON of info on here about the frame rust issue so just do a search of some key words and the stuff other members have posted should come up. There is info all about the options and the experiences guys have had with it. I know there is a coating that you can have applied by Toyota for free if you live within a certain area or state and I guess that is supposed to help. Heard its kinda like slime grease type thing that takes a few days to actually set up on the frame.

Thanks...I figured as much. Have a friend with a 2000 who got the undercoating. I'll look for newer models.
2004s are affected too, though if the frame rusts out on the 2001-2004 Tacoma, Toyota will repair or replace it. If any model year of Tacoma has a clean frame or not rusted through, the dealer will apply rust proofing to it free of charge.

I have never heard about the free application of rust proofing(2001-2004 ) if your frame is in good shape, where is this written as I am intested! Got a link?
