Possibly battery or alternator. You didn't mention which engine but the V-6 is particularly sensitive to a questionable battery. How many miles? Did this just start? Bought new or used? You're a bit short on information.

Start with belt.
next would be grounds on battery and alternator.
Next would be general battery clamps condition.
Otherwise, you have problem with power management by electronics.
Something somewhere is either stealing power away or not enough power produced or high resistance element is in the system.

Btw, new alternator as in new - new, new, new refurbished ? and did you check out its output? I had 3 bad alternators outta da box same night once.

New new alternator. OEM part. What voltage is it supposed to read idling? And any tips for dialing in tension?

If you have tensioner pulley, is should have From>To marks on its base. Nos directly saying that, just some marks showing useful range and pointer.
Otherwise, grab belt between fingers and try to twist it. If you can see its back side, it is too loose. Basically, if you can twist it 180 degrees.
Normal Output
An alternator should put out between 13.5 and 15 volts of power. The alternator should be tested with the engine idling and electrical accessories, such as the radio and headlights, turned off.

Also, watch your idle. Is it stable or fluctuates?
