I brought my 2007 Matrix to a different garage than normal on the recommendation of a friend. I had a typical 136,000 km service done (change the air filter, oil change, etc.), pretty simple stuff.

Two days after my check engine light came on with the code "P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1)".
Below is the freeze fame from my Innova 3100 OBDII scanner:

Fuel Sys 1..........CL
Fuel Sys 2..........NA
Calc Load (%).....16.1
ECT(C)...............70
STFT B1(%)........16.4
LTFT B1(%).........29.7
Eng RPM.............775
Veh Speed(km/h)..0
Spark Adv............13.5
IAT(C)................-14
MAF(g/s).............2.23
TPS(%)...............15.3

I asked the mechanic if there is any reason why the check engine light came on after he serviced the car. The car was running just fine before he touched it. Is there anything he could have done as part of his service to prompt this error? Or is this just a coincidence?

Thanks in advance!

I own a 2003 XR with the same code that keeps popping up. Only happens on very cold starts. From what I have researched the cause is a bad intake manifold gasket. I spoke to the service guys at Toyota and they all said that they always get cars in for this code in the winter. The gasket costs under $10 and from what I have read is an easy fix. I am replacing mine this week I will let you know how it goes.
