I'm curious if any of you have had a similar experience. The window sticker on my 08 says: "AM/FM/CD w/6 Disc Chngr, 6 Spkrs & Steering Wheel Audio Controls", cost $200.00 code DZ. This must be an upgrade to the regular AM/FM/CD w6 Speakers which is listed under INTERIOR. The truck has a single CD deck i.e. no 6 disc changer but does have the steering wheel controls. Also on the towing package (code TO) it says: "7-pin Connector w/ Converter". I assume the converter is a 7 to 4 pin converter. I got no converter. Should the sticker be 100% accurate?

I think the 6 disk changer looks much the same as a single disk unit. The owners manual has a picture of both. I think the changer has a load button on it, mine does not. Also I tried to insert a second disk, no go.
Thank you for telling me about the adapter. Now I won't complain about that if and when I ask about the radio.

The converter they refer to is not a 7 pin to 4 pin adapter for the tow hitch.

It is the brake controller harness to be used and wired into existing under dash wiring, if needed for a trailer. It should be in your glove box in a plastic bag with a wiring diagram.
Yes, sucky terminology by Toyota. The 7 to 4 pin "Converter" you'd expect to be the plug for the hitch that plugs into the 7 pin and has a 4 pin on the other end. What's confusing is that Toyota calls this a 7 to 4 pin "Adapter". Gotta buy this little guy after the fact.

The 6-disk changer is in fact a 6-disk in dash changer. You load 1 disk at a time until you have loaded 6.
If you haven't tried that already, give it a shot and you will see that it will just keep taking the disks.

yes! a big hint on telling whether or not it's a changer, is if u see the "LOAD" buttonr directly to the right of where you insert the disc

IMO, i thought it was pretty good for what it was, but I actually recently upgraded and dumped this stock HU on ebay and got $100 for it. :D

So if you were suppose to get the 6 disc changer, make sure you have it because even if you dont want it, you can sell it

Darn, I may have had a buyer for you (my brother).

Bad timing I guess.

A converter and adapter are two different things. Since the Tacoma uses LED taillights, you need to convert (step up) the power for trailers which typically do not have LED lights. On the other hand, the adapter takes the 7 pin connection and adapts it to a flat 4 pin connection. The "converter" is included in the tow package, the "adaptor" is not and can be bought at the dealership (or whereever) for $10 or so.

Thank you for all the comments. I went back to the dealer and complained about how I didn't get the 6CD changer. They said they'd get me one. I'm waiting for a phone call from the install guy so we shall see. I wonder if I started this or if some other guy got the stereo out of my truck. This should hold me till I get the $s and figure out what NAV is good.
