My Tacoma's mileage is getting up there and I'm beginning to consider purchasing a new truck - most likely later this year. While doing research I came across the new Hummer H3T Pickup. While I love my Taco, I would love to have a V8 and I don't want to move up to the Tundra - it's too big.

Aside from quality and worse gas mileage with a V8, are there any things I should consider before straying away from a Taco? I've always had Toyotas and never had a domestic car. Should I even consider the H3T?

First of all, H3s are gay. All they are is just a rebodied colorado/canyon. That said, they have very poor visibility IMO because of the slim side windows. But I'll just stick with my previous statements, they're gay. :gaydumbo:

I agree, terrible vehicle and a disgrace to the name HUMMER. As soon as they decided to profit from the name and citizen-ized the military vehicle they went to shit. The only HUMMER is the H1. The others are rebodied GM's with a large priced tag. I personally can not fathom comparing a Tacoma to a H3....but it is your paycheck and your payment, do what you want.

For what it's worth... in my experience, every GM vehicle I have owned was a P.O.S. and I had to drive it 'til it died cuz resale value was nothing. (I mention this cuz you're talking about trading in your current vehicle) and they were always in the shop. (told my mechanic that I personally paid for his trip to Vegas)

Secondly, I don't know how it is in New England (Go Pats! by the way) but here in NM, everyone has a hummer. If you want to follow the flock, be my guest.

I would rather have something that's, IMHO, a bit better quality and not what every one else is driving.

Edit: But then again, that's the reason I'm a member of TN and not of a Hummer site. So you're responses here will most definitely be biased. (I know, I'm Capt. Obvious)

This is exactly why I would never own a GM product. They continue to disappoint. It doesn't matter if you are driving a Cobalt or a Vett....it's a GM product and somewhere down the road they cut a corner and used plastic instead of metal.

Anyone notice how the DTRL on the driver side is always burned out on the Chevy Trucks/Suburbans/Yukons, 2000+?

+1. My first "new" car was a '95 Grand Am. Biggest POS ever. Made me hate GM forever.

My neighbors have a yellow H3. Yes yellow. It's plain ass ugly. Makes me laugh every time I see it, though

Mother-in-law recently traded in her '03 Envoy with just 32,000 miles on it for an '07 4Runner Sport. She wasn't ready to get rid of the Envoy. The transmission disintegrated. The tranny fluid test showed that it contained (A) coolant and (B) thousands of ppm of metal fragments. It was literally ready to blow apart.

She's owned nothing but blazer-based cars dating back to 1991. Now she has a Toyota. Her husband, my father-in-law now drives an '06 tundra after having nothing but Chevy and Dodge trucks. I suggested he look at Toyota back in 2006 when his '04 Dakota got crunched. He looked; He liked; He bought; He still likes; He repeat-bought for his wife.

I say get the H3T so you can look cool 10% of the time. After 3 years of driving that thing you'll either be on the repair shop or on the side of the road while us "REAL" Taco enthusiast pass by. :naughty:

Start saving up and hope your close to the dealer for repairs. I'll bet the 'Alpha' V8 model will run over $40K. Hummers have the most reported new vehicle problems of any brand sold in the US. What, no stick with the V8?

I have a 05 4x4 4.0 DC with allpro suspension and rear bumper, URD maf controller, and custom exhaust..go alsmost 60K on it..and it runs pretty good but the H3 alpha V8 will run off and hide from my tacoma....and the sad thing is that the gas milage is just about the same....and if I tow my single axle enclose trailer with the dirt bikes I get like 10mpg and I'd bet the H3 V8 would be better on milage towing not to metion towing the load much easier. The new H3 alpha truck with front and rear lockers will go places my tacoma just won't....but again I've stuffed the tacoma through some nasty stuff.

I do agree that less service over 100K miles will be needed for the tacoma than the H3 but the H3's acutally come with a better waranty and as we can see from the rummble strip transmission problem in the Tundra's everyone has their share of problems once they throw in big V8's and big tansmissions and such.

My wish would be a 2009 tacoma with the 4.7 V8 out of the lexus or a small diesel.....If doesn't happen then I will most likely move to the H3 alpha truck based on offroad capability and towing.
my 2 cents

I'd be willing to bet that that H3 with the v8 doesn't get near 20mpg like my truck gets with the v6. For reliability and not getting you stranded while offroad, toyota gets my money every time. :)
