Hi. I decide to go with a minor suspension lift on my 1993 2wd x-cab using the same parts that Ajones1165 used (SDORI 1.5" BJ Spacers, Procomp add-a-leaf, and longer Bilstein shocks for the rear). The goal is to be able to install at least 235/75R15 Geolanders.

I installed all the parts today. The rear of my truck now sits 2" higher, but the front gained only a half inch in height. Why after installing 1.5" ball joint spacers did the front only go up a half inch? I drove the truck around to see how it would settle but that didn't helped. I have not touched the torsion bars yet. I figured I'd crank them a little to try to get the front from 1.5" to 2" to match the rear, but isn't raising the front 1.5" by cranking the torsion bars too much? What am I missing?

Thanks!

Yeah i think mine onlly raised my truck about 3/4"
im pretty sure i just cranked the torsion bars up to where i wanted it.

im sure you noticed that the front end was a lot softer? thats what the bj spacers do, they soften the suspension so you can torque the torsion bars more and still have a decent ride, but they do also lift a little by themselves without cranking the torsion bars just like you experienced.

not sure how it softens it up. from what I see it is... it basically opened the gap between the arms.

on the lowered trucks, some of us do B/J flips. basically unbolt the spindle from the arm, and bolt it on top, to achieve a 1" drop. BUT we have to unbolt BOTH.

so what i dont understand is..... if you only have the spacers on the top... and not the bottom... how does that affect anything?

we flip both to keep suspension geometry the same at the same time lowering it a full inch.

Yeah i have no idea either ^^^ i just know that it was so soft, going over the littler bumps that i never had to worry about, it made the tires rub. once i cranked my bars though, and well, got new ones, that solved that problem haha. my ucas are on the upper bump stops. i need spindles soon

Ajones1165, thanks for replying. I enjoyed reading your long forum thread about what you've done to your truck. BTW, my daughter lives in Apple Valley and attends Victor Valley College, not far from you.

I attempted to crank my torsion bars but accomplished nothing. Whenever I turned the bolt on the bottom, the nut would also turn on the top. I don't have the strength to hold a wrench on the nut while turning the bolt. Is there a trick to this? Yes, I did lift the truck so the front wheels were off the ground. I'm thinking I'm going to need some help with this. Any suggestions on how to get help?

Thanks!

hey no problem at all! im curious to see your truck when you get it all figured out
And yeah VVC is seriously a 5 minute drive from my house. and my high school is on pretty much the same campus as VVC lol.

Pretty much, the trick to tightening those, is just get a wrench on the top nut, and turn the bottom of the bolt till the wrench gets wedged against something(probably the frame, i cant remember) then tighten how ever much you want(its really hard). then to get the wrench out just back the bolt off so it releases it.
if you have anyy other questions, feel free to post in my thread, pm me, or just start another thread, thats what this place is for right? good luck!

It's been a decade, but I wanted to tell you I did what you suggested and did get the front of my truck raised to match the back height. I also put a shell on the back. Here is what it looks like with 29" tires on the stock 15" rims. Thanks!
