I know that this will probably sound a bit crazy, but I have always liked to be a little bit different :p

Anyhow, back when I was in high school, I had a 1975 Toyota Corona wagon with a 20r in it. Also, the motor had an aftermarket cam, header, and weber downdraft carb. The car was nice and quick with the 4 speed it had in it, and although I didn't really race people all the time or anything, I never did get beat in a stoplight to stoplight type situation hehe. Anyhow, the 75 wagon had a really large engine compartment (for a mid 70's Toyota I mean) and it was pretty quick how it was (it seemed to have pretty low gears since the top speed was about 85mph before it would be screaming like a banshee), but now that I know about the 18RG motors and what they are capable of, I was thinking of maybe getting another one of these and tricking it out a bit. The one I had before ran strong and looked relatively decent, but since I have a real job now and could afford it, I could actually do some stuff like decent paint, some nice big wheels, tinted windows, and some other stuff. I know that it seems pretty easy to stick an 18rg into an older celica, but does anyone know if there would likely be any issues sticking one into a Corona? As I said, the original engines in each were the same, and the engine compartment is bigger than a celicas, so any ideas of any major modifications that would be needed? Also, since the previous one was so low geared, anyone know of another rear end that would be pretty much a bolt in for this car, or would it likely be better to see if it can be custom built with new gearing? Any opinion or help appreciated!

i don't know how difficult of a swap it would be but i think this would be a very interesting and cool buildup if you ever get it going. you should definitely do it and keep us posted.

humm i dont know much about what the 18r can do but the 22r isn't too much bigger and i think it would have more potencial as it being a similer type block but with a larger dispalcement. also i (this is with trucks) i head of people swaping in small block chev engines(4.7?) in and those would give some serious power but would need more mods.

but for your swap try and search the internet for where the engine mounts are, if they are in diffrent places then you would have to redo the mounts, and if you stay carb then the ecu would be easy but you still have to change it over to what type of engine you use. here some fun sites for that

and one last thing dont put it on 22 spinna's
