I just bought a 76 yota. I rebuilt the carb, fixed my fuel pressure problem, and ironed most of the other kinks out. The problem is, it will only start if I pour gas down the intake, and then it runs fine. Without gas, it will turn over and over without prevail. It doesn't matter if its cold or hot. With the motor at operating temperature, if I kill the ignition then immediately try to start it again, I get nothing. Pour a little gas down, it starts fine.

76 won't start

Does the carb have a sight glass on the carb body and if so, can you see fuel in the glass?

If not, it sounds as if the float is incorrectly set/stuck or your not getting fuel to the carb which may be a bad fuel pump.

It has to be one of those two since it starts when fuel in dumped down the carb.

You were absolutely right, the rebuild kit gave me the wrong fuel needle, so it was too long to let enough gas in the bowl. I put the old one in, started right up. Now I'm having idle problems, and there are no accurate vacuum diagrams around to check their placement. Damn.
