I just bought a 83 toyota pickup 4X4.

i was wondering what is the biggest tire that truck can handle without losing to much power and and harsh steering?

It is already lifted really high and its sitting on 39s right now but it has no top end power. I think I want to put smaller tires on it

Let me know what you guys think.

You have a choice of spending $$$ on tires or $$$ on gears, it's up to you. 5.29's would be what you want for gears, assuming you have 4.10's now, or you could go to a 31" tire which would be as big as you want for stock gearing.

I found out that it has 5.71 gears.
I would like to do some freeway driving what would be best.
right now the truck wont go over 50mph, and wont rev over 4000 rpm.
maybe something is wrong with the motor?

need help!!

So somebody's done some mods to the truck then since it has 571's. I'd check the engine then, do a tune up, etc. It should still pull over 4000.

OK, 39" tires and a 22R 4 cyl is really pushing it, even with 5.71 gears.
If you want to do some freeway driving drop down to some 37" tires.

If it is a five speed...try running it in fourth. That is a huge amount of tire for a four cylinder. A V-8 will even have trouble with 39's!!!
