when my truck is at idle, the charge light and the parking brake lights come on, as soon as i speed up the motor however, they go off. could it be my alternator? (replaced 1 month ago) could it be a voltage regulator? please help.

Even tho you just replaced the alt, it sounds like a bad alt.
If it were the orig alt I'd say worn brushes.
Rebuilts have about a 50% failure rate.

BTW, the CHRG and BRAKE lights both come on to make sure you know there's a problem.

Your 85 alternator has an internal regulator, it sounds like your new alternator is bad.

Yeah, an 85 with a 22R should have an external V reg.
Should be fairly cheap to replace.

No, that's not true.

22R's and external regulators went past 84. Especially on base model 2WDs.

yeah its internally regulated, i took thee alternator off and had it tested and the voltage regulator was bad, stator was bad, low voltage output, etc.. luckily the guy just handed me a new one and took the old one.
