I have noticed since I bought my cressida over a year ago that when accelerating once the car reaches 2500 RPM there seems to be a momentary lag where one of two things happens. 1) if I am on it hard enough it will just lag for a second and then continue to wind out through the gear; or, 2) if I am light on the accelerator it will actually drop about 200-300 RPM and up shift, killing acceleration. I never thought much about it because I just figured it was some cheesy feature to promote fuel economy, as these models tend to do. But recently I replaced the fuel pump (unrelated issues), thinking maybe this would also cure the lag...it did not. Any ideas out there???

have you noticed this in all gears or just one gear? it's hard to say but it might be something in the AFM circuit

next question: does it do it at the same rpm whether it's light throttle or heavy? hmmm hard to say for sure, especially without driving it myself, could be AFM but could also be transmission/torque converter related
