Hey dudes, im new here and i am just lookin for a couple opinions. On an N/A MA70 is it an easyer route to just turbo the NA block with a fuel controller, FPR and a few other goodies or is it a better idea to switch over the whole turbo motor plus ecu and harness? how hard is the engine harness changeover? can anyone direct me to a site with a documented swap? Thanks!

Given the current prices of the MKIII's, I would just sell your car and buy a 87 up Turbo MKIII. I am all for a project, but their is no sense in reinventing the wheel when it was already done from the factory. Your going to spend a lot of time and probably similiar $ to to get the same result.

Either a 7M-GTE Swap, or buy a turbo car. NA's aren't that grand for turbo-ing, and either way you'll still need/want to do a metal head gasket.

Any idea if its the same on the 7mge?
Considering its a different ECU, it doesn't have any provisions for boost cut, but that also means it doesn't have correct fueling for boost either. The injectors are small 295cc (vs Turbo 440cc) and I would guess the 7m-ge AFM probably maxes out pretty early as well. You sound like rookie when it comes to turbo's, and properly fueling a non turbo motor isn't a rookie project...

if you poke around enough, you'll see there are very simple ways to get past fuel cut. (lex afm, is the easiest route, coupled with 550cc injectors. or, the maftpro is much better, and allows you to convert to speed/density, which is the route i took)

Just get the 7mgte...like they said it'll be easier.

Which gets me thinking...on mine (7mgte), it has the oil squirters inside of it. Does the 7mge have those too? Or would those need tapping into the oil line?

the GE does not have squirters. I've never seen anyone who did the NA/T swap bother with them. Some theorize the higher oil pressures from not having them are more beneficial than the extra cooling is...I'm not sure which would be the better starting point either, but figure that Toyota doesn't spend on extra parts it doesn't think are needed/of benefit.

I think the biggest issue would be running the flapper style air meter. Other than that, and some minor things (one knock sensor, not two) they are very similiar...

(and to keep an eye on AFR's- higher compression ratio of the 7MGE puts you that much closer to detonation)
