My 1991 has a wobbly stick shift handle. There is a lot of wiggle room to the left and right. How can I tighten it up? I don't see any bolts, unless they are on the top of the tranny. If they are on top of the tranny, how do I access them?

Welcome to the forums! :)

Do you have any piccies of the stick shift base? Is there a cover or carpet over it? There's usually a rubber boot to keep the elements and noise out of the cab. ;)

How many miles do you have on the vehicle? In most cases, it's usually the shifter seat that's deteriorated and needs to be replaced. Give the seats from Marlin Crawler a visit and see if it doesn't fix yer problem. You might even need to replace the shifter socket as well. ;)

Thanks for the reply. I'll be able to get to it this weekend. The runner has about 240K on it and in a previous life it was ran hard.

In the past I have taken it apart and removed the rubber boot. I could see the top of the tranny but don't recall being able to get to anything to tighten it up. Is the shifter seat located on the tranny?

Once you remove the rubber boot and the shifter, you can remove the old shifter seat (if there is anything left of it) and install the new one.
