I have a 93 Carmry XLE with the V6, when I do a cold start, and engage the shifter to reverse or drive the idle shoots up to 1500 -1700 rpm and the vehicle surges forward or backward. Anyone experience this problem. I'm assuming a vacuum or sensor issue.
Thanks in advance.

One possibility is the Air Intake Control (AIC) valve that might be sticky. Search this site for AIC cleaning. What I do with my 96 camry to test that is spray some throtle body cleannig through the P port into the throtle body. That should get the cleanner into the entrance of the AIC valve. It might be hard to start ( 2-4 times). If that is your problem try the methods that you will find in this site.
Good luck.

Thanks Burchard.

I took the entire unit out, plenum and all and cleaning it all up thouroughly. Took a while, but what a difference.
Thanks again for the lead.
