1993 tercel rear brake conversion question

hi there

i have read the very good how to about the rear brakes conversion for the tercel on board.tercel.online, but this is for the starlet ep82/91 discs

would corsa brakes fit too? i have found these on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/CORSA-1-8-16v-C-Drilled-Grooved-Brake-Discs-Front-Rear_W0QQitemZ290294242390QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item290294242390&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

would these fit for a rear brake conversion on my 93 tercel or only the starlet ep82/91 ones fit?

thanks a lot,

nate

Now youre talking about rear disc brake conversion right?
ok so for starters those are NOT toyota corsa brake discs those are 5 bolt and there is no such thing as a 1.8 litre corsa, probubly for some other car and im pretty sure even the JDM corsas had drum brakes and the starlet was the only on with discs, i paid 500 shipped for my starlet rear discs and it took me about 6 hours to do the rear brake conversion, bled and test drive it, with working e-brake, when you put them on though theres a small spot you have to grind off on the rear axle or else the calipers hit and the back brakes drag, I used a 92 Celica GTS proportioning valve for it, im not sure if the Tercel on will work
There is a 1.8 liter Corsa, but not the Toyota Corsa. Some of the European cars have the same names as Japanese ones and cause confusion. The Tercel valve will not give you the proper force to the rear brakes. You can find part numbers in the following thread:

yeah thats what i figured, a couple guys on tercelonline say theyve run the Tercel proportioning valve but i didnt want to, so like i said i grabbed a celica GTS one, its was 15 bucks so it would have been stupid not to
ok cool, thanks for all this help
just few things on my mind;

what does "O/S N/S" stand for? (as in O/S cable 46420-18010)
also, i need parts from an ep82 or ep91, or i can mix parts?

is it good to buy the rear discs from an ep82/91 and fit them on the tercel, (anyone knows where i can find some?) or is it better to get the whole starlet rear axle with the discs/galipers (if someone knows where i can find one please let me know) ?

thanks a lot
O/S is our driver side and N/S is the passenger side. I'd go with EP82 parts.

Starlet axle is the same as tercel paseo and corsa. ( you do not want to rip that beam out, it's just more work.) in other words have a closer look at your tercel the... the rear axle is welded to the beam.
.
The entire rear drops out in minutes with the right tools. I used the entire Starlet rear axle and the swap took me about two hours total. I spent more time dicking around with replacing the proportioning valve and the e-brake cables than doing the axle swap. The Starlet rear axle is also slightly more narrow, which helps when you are planning to lower the car with bigger wheels. The last pic in my sig shows just the brake parts from a Starlet that I put on my 92, but the second to last pic shows my 96 with the entire Starlet axle swapped on.
cool cool
so far i have ordered 3G 20-gr rear discs, ep82 OEM hand brake cables (both sides), a wilwood adjustable proportioning valve and OEM ep82 brake pads

so far do you think im all good? changing the proportioning valve is good thing (a must?)?
its okay to keep my tercel axle too?

also.. if you know where i can get my hands on the backplate both sides and the rear calipers that would be very handy
i just cant find any wherever i look (maybe im looking at wrong places)

thanks for helping,

nate
Changing the valve is a must to be safe. Keeping the Tercel axle is up to you. What you have is a good start. If you don't buy an entire axle or the cut-off rear brake conversion, you will have to order the other parts new from Toyota or hope to find them on ebay. Or talk to some of the Starlet guys on www.ToyotaGTTurbo.comm
hey
what calipers can i use with the 3g discs ?
i have no clue what calipers to use except the stock ep82 ones.. and since i just cant find any maybe would be easier to get some aftermarket ones
what would be a good pair of calipers and that would fit the 93 tercel
and while im there, can i just put some 3g discs at the front with the same aftermarket calipers i would use at the rear ?

Nope, the Starlet axle is slightly narrower. The difference being the section where the brake backing plate bolts on. Tercel/Paseo this pad is about 3/4 inch thick, on Starlet it's 1/2 inch or less. Helps prevent tire scrub on wide wheels. Get the Starlet panhard rod as well, it's beefier and has better ends.
yes i already have the adjustable ep82 panhard rod, also a rear whiteline btr33 swaybar, kyb gr2 stuts and vogtland 35mm drop springs..

all i am missing is the starlet rear backing plates and rear calipers
do you know what other calipers i can use instead of the stock ep82 ones?

would paseo calipers fit in the front on upgraded tercel front discs?

thanks
Use all the front brake parts from a 92-95 Paseo as the rotor is bigger and the caliper is also bigger to fit it. Try www.XRCbrakes.com for a complete set. As for the rear, nothing other than the stock Starlet ones will fit without modification.
ok damn cool, thanks for the site ill surely order calipers and discs for a 92-95 paseo from there (discs and calipers fit with no modification needed?)

now i will be using starlet rear brakes, and paseo bigger front brakes
do i need to get the paseo or starlet master cylinder ?
do i need to change the front brake line (paseo one..?) after changing calipers for bigger ones ?

thanks
i got so many questions.. sorry for bombarding

what happens if i cant find the starlet backing plates?
can i do the swap or it will never work (is the backing plate mandatory, or is it just for protecting from dust and stuff like that or is it used to hold something?.. because if its just to protect, then i can make myself one?)
also do i need the starlet hubs if i keep my tercel axle?

thanks again
I will try to find you the link to the walk through posted on Tercel Online.
oh well i think the installation is fine with me, ive read the how to you are talking about
very well done with clear pictures and instructions
but the problem i have right now is finding rear starlet ep82 calipers and rear backing plates..

i just cant find any so im wondering if the backing plates can be made custom (if they are just used to protect and have no mechanical function)
and for the calipers.. i guess ill just keep searching the whole internets
Like I said, you can order them new or contact one of the guys on www.ToyotaGTTurbo.com
