I have a 1995 corrolla dx, 1.8 Liter, 4 speed auto with 66,000 miles. I have had this problem for some time and cannot figure it out. I have got it down to a vacuum leak underneath the intake manifold, in or around the metal pipe that goes to idle control on bottom of the throttle body.

I read one of the posts about timming and jumped across the TE1 & E1 in the dianogists conector. I had this code flashing on the dash.

Check eng light= 4-4-1-2 or 4-4-1-4-4-2

O/D light= Steady flashing

Timming was right on and not adjustable on 1995.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated I do not know where to go next with this car. It runs good enough to pass NJ inspection last month, but gas milage is only around 24 MPG.

Thanks,

those codes dont make any sense there are no such codes, i would check again

Ok, I rechecked amd will explain better. I jumped across TE1 & E1, then turned on ingition, and read flashing lights.

Engine light blinks twice, pause, four times, pause, four times, pause then once.

OD off light flashes steady.

Hope this helps.
Thanks

for the 1995 OBDII system they still dont make sense if i use the code table for 1988 - 1995 engines i get

code 24 - intake air temperature sensor circuit (THA); open/ short for 500msec. or more

code 41 - Throttle position sensor circuit (VTA); open/short

I would recomend a haynes or chilton manual to help you trouble shoot
