need a quick response please--

I can get a really good deal on a set of wheels 16" and tires 265/70/r16--that came off a Tundra..will they fit my 2wd T???

will
They "should" provided the bolt patterns are the same (I think they are). The only way to be sure is to test fit them though (to make sure the backspacing and tire size dont cause any rubbing).

Gator,

I just put some 275/70 R 16 on my 97 2WD and they fit / work great. Most likely you will want to bump up the height of you front end to prevent rubbing. I have the ball joint spacers on order (not here yet) and will need to adjust the torsion bars once these are installed. I ended up ordering the 1.5" spacers. The tires that are on there work fine as is, and the truck looks much better but there is a slight amount of rubbing on big bumps (with the wheel turned). It's not that big a deal to me, but one of those turns is into the alley of my house...

Good luck, the 16" wheels from the 15" make a huge difference in how the truck stance is / driving. They look great. Mine came from a 97 Land Cruiser that I was able to find on Craigslist of about $300 (tires included)...

awesome!! I am picking mine up soon..I also got a deal $300 wheels and tires that come off a 06 Tundra TRD.. Do I HAVE to put on the ball joint spacers or can I just adjust the torsion bars?? I was going to adjust the bars and then get an alignment..
Can't wait to get started-

Gator,

You can probably get away with just the torsion bar adjustment. I am trying to level my truck (front to back) and the difference is right at 2"... So the ball joint spacers will get me 1.5" and then use a little more with the torsion bars...

You will most likely need about 1" (or less) to prevent rubbing on the front, and others have posted that you could get this simply with the torsion bar adjustment. Let me know how it works out for you and how far you had to adjust your torsion bars...

Have you seen the post about the torsion bar adjustment? Basically measure / adjust / lower the truck and drive around for a while (short while) and repeat the entire process. It seems that there is about 1/2" sag from where you adjust initially to where it finally ends up. And then obviously get a front end alignment when you are done...

Good luck,

I have read on this on the forum to exhaustion... I am trying to level mine as well or get as close as I can by the torsion bars. from the ground to rear wheel {body} is 34" front is 31".. I am measuring from the ground to the highest point of the curve above the- on the body- is this correct?

Gator,

I don't think you'll get 3" out of the torsion bars without severely affecting your ride quality. In order to get the 2" that I am looking for I am going with the 1.5" ball spacers and some torsion bar adjustment as well. With the ball spacers I am also using a shock extender on the top of the shock. I am uncertain about how much you could get simply using the torsion bars (but 3" seems like a lot)...

There is one thing I am uncertain on also, that is if I am happy with the 1.5" from the spacers would I still need to adjust the torsion bars also (in addition to). Maybe someone else could comment. The way I understand it I will need to adjust the torsion bars also in order to match the ride height (with the new spacers)... I am hoping that it makes sense once I am under the truck... and adjusting.

Gator,

I just finished my installation and it was quite a bit more involved than I at first thought. It wasn't hard but start to finish it took about 5 hours. I installed the new 1.5" upper ball joint spacers, the shocks extensions, and adjusted the torsion bars to level the truck.

On my truck most of my adjustment was already done (at the factory) so I only had about 1/2" - 1" of torsion bar length to play with, but this was plenty to raise the truck 2". I ended up overshooting on one side and undershooting on the other. Most of the time was spent adjusting the torsion bar, jacking up / down, driving around and re-checking. After final adjustment I was able to match front-back and side-side to within 1/16th". When I started one side of the truck was about 1/4" lower than the other (up front) which I guess is due to suspension sag over the years.

At first it seemed like my ride was going to be harder, but then after final adjustment it seems fine. It is currently at the shop getting an alignment (as you could visually see that the tires were towed in significantly).

I let you know how the truck rides after the alignment, but the steering was much quicker (due to the severe tow-in). I like the stance of the truck much better now, which is mostly the wheels / tires (which I also change) but the jacked up front end feels much nicer also. It makes it feel / look like a much bigger truck.

but I will at least level it out.. the wheels made all the difference, came off 06 Tundra TRD alloys..
I will post pics soon. hope yall have a great weekend.
