Lately I've been very interested in attempting this swap. Most of my travel is done on the highway and my high revving corolla in third gear isn't saving me the gas.

I've been reading around and found that my 3 speed is easier to swap out than a 4 speed. Can anyone inform me on what exact parts will be needed? Also, how much would it cost to have it done at a shop, and how much if I take on the project myself?

Thanks Forum! :thanks:

3spd to 5spd conversion currently underway

So..couldn't help but jump into this one:lol: I began about a week ago with this swap. I've done this kind of thing before(should of learned) but i guess i just like the challenge. I have a good friend with a scrap yard so i have an advantage over some i understand. The swap car is a 2002 with 3spd auto and the donor car was 2001 manual. because i had the luxury and wasn't sure exactly what i would need i took everything. Dropped the K frame with engine/trans struts etc. i also took clutch master cylinder and pedal as well as shifter and cables. This is where i went a little further than necessary i took the entire wiring harness complete without cutting anything as well as the ecm. Its not that complicated esp the 3spd to 5spd conversion. I won't need the harness or the ecm. But if anyone who would like to do the swap from 4spd auto to 5spd manual would like the harness/ecm pm me i can definitely hook ya up.

Good job getting the engine wire out intact!

If you can, you should also get the horizontal dash brace bar. One of the 4 attachment points for the clutch pedal bracket is there. Mine is only hanging on by the two nuts to the clutch master cylinder. The fourth attachment point needs to be drilled on the firewall and a nut brazed on there.

Oh mine is a 99 4-speed to manual, swapped ECU anyway, and modded the engine wire a few.

that sounds great! mind showing some pics? or maybe a walk around video? I'm really interested in this project with my mechanic uncle. How much did it cost you for gathering all you needed?

The advantage I spoke about is pretty significant. I didn't mention in the previous post that the engine ran great too. My buddy sold me everything I previously listed plus all ac lines, condensor, radiator as well as the brake master cylinder/mount and pedal for $75. I know its awesome, we are close and I've helped him out alot too.

Nice,
I am going to try this out on my 4sp next year once I get my taxes back for funds. I can get all the parts from the local junk yard for around $350. How hard is the 4sp wiring to convert to stick?
