Hello,

My 1998 Corolla has 2 problems:

  1. It starts shaking at around 70 MPH but is pretty smooth under that speed. What could be wrong?
  2. When I brake at high speeds, I feel the brake vibrating under my feet. It brakes fine though. I know the brakes are new. What could be wrong, and could this be corrected?
I just did the alignment from Firestone, and also replaced the cam bolt which they recommended.

Thanks in advance for your help.

get your wheels balanced, check your suspension(make sure it's tight), check all lugs to make sure they're on tight, check your front calipers to make sure they're not hanging/sticking.

Did this condition start after the repairs or the brake job? Try swapping the front and rear tires. Both problems could be from the same issue, this being the front brakes. If you can feel the brake peddle pulsing when you apply the brakes, this is a sign the rotors could be warped, or other brake problems. Are the brakes new in that the rotors were replaced or turned?

Depending on when the problem started, suggest you go back to whom did the brake job or front end repairs and express you concern.

Could also be a blocked brake hose.

I had a vibration on a Chevy truck once. It wouldn't be there initially, but would start a few minutes later. Checked tire balance, wheel bearings, driveshaft, universal joints, brake rotors...

I jacked up the front immediately after a bad vibration episode and found one of the front wheels was hard to rotate. I changed the caliper and it still had the problem. I then changed the brake hose and the vibration went away.

HAVE YOU GOT YOUR BALL JOINTS INSPECTED?
APART FROM WHEEL-ALINMENT ARE SURE SURE ALL OF YOUR WHEELS ARE CORRECTLY BALANCED?

IF YOU HAVE ABS BRAKES, MAKE SURE ALL ABS SPEED SENSORS OK.
IF YOU HAVE NON-ABS, MAKE SURE YOUR ROTORS AND DRUMS ARE OF BRANDED QUALITY NOT CHEAP ONES AND PROPELY BALANCED, COZ SOMETIMES IF YOUR VEHICLE WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT PRIOR TO FIRESTONE'S JOB MAY FADDED ROTORS OR DRUMS UN-EVEN.

THIS IS JUST GUESS.

Hello folks. This forum is pretty knowledgeable I must say!

I went to firestone, stated the problem, and just asked them what could be wrong. They pretty much replicated your suggestions.

I would like to thank all of you for your help.

This forum rocks!!
