Hello, the car is a 2004 Camry LE 2.4l. I have been posting about a slight vibration when starting the car and in reverse and decided I'd start a new thread now that I think I've found the issue. I'm worried my motor mounts are going bad. Visual inspection makes it seem like they're good but the engine moves more than I'd expect it to. I recorded a video of the engine while shifting through P, D, and R. Does it look like that's too much movement? Also could it be enough to replace the dogbone engine mount since it seems to be the only worn component?

Thanks!

you can see the dog bone's gone for sure. the rest will require visual inspection and testing under a load as you did here for the dog bone to verify. the rear mount is a pain to see unless it's on a hoist. and usually they won't put a person in there on a hoist to shift the trans but luckily i found 2 places that do. the trans mount is easy to see with the driver's wheel removed and the front dampener could be leaking oil or not but that one won't show it's condition till it's removed usually.

dog bone usually wear out normally. You can replace the dog bone and see how it helps with the torque movement on the top end of the engine. If the dog bone mount fails, your front and/or rear mount is probably bad.

Going to replace the dog bone mount for sure, my question is, do I go with OEM or just get one from advance or Amazon? I know most people believe to go with OEM but I was hoping to get it replaced as quick as possible so I don't cause any more damage.

For the Dog bone I'll be fine with an aftermarket one. For the more critical one such as the front or the side mounts (big stomp looking ones) those are best for OEM as some people (more so the Gen3/4 fourms) experienced worst vibration after replacing with an aftermarket one.

So.... As you can see, it was VERY broken. New mount seemed to fix most of the engine moment but it still moves more than I'd consider normal? Visual inspection shows the other mounts look okay but should I get them changed anyways? What's a fair price?

It is pretty worn.

The mounts might run a few hundred. You can get them from coolsprings for a good price. Dogbone I wouldn't worry about getting genuine. Getting genuine on the other one might be ideal.

I would check to see if the engine play in my 2004 SE I4 is the same, but I drive a 5spd manual. I'm also considering getting new mounts as well eventually.

I'm not 100% sure which mounts you need since the diagram isn't that great, but make a thread or send a PM to our vendor.

Thanks for the info, I may shoot them a message and see what they quote me. And thanks for the offer haha, I'll probably look around and see if I can find a video or if someone would be kind enough to post one of their engine while cycling through P D R. The engine is definitely more steady and not 'clunking' when starting now so I *hope* the other mounts are good... May have a shop double check since I'm short on free time.

Sounds good! Refer to your old thread, if the clunking noise is now gone, your engine must be shaking more than what we can see in the video. Glad its resolve for the most part!
