I have 2 "standard size mountain bikes. The front wheels come off and the seats comes off easily. They fit in the back of my saab 900 hatch. I was wondering if anybody has tried to fit 2 bikes in the trunk of a Corrola.

If you have done this, pls reply. thanks

You should be able to fit them inside if you alternate where the bikes rear wheels sit.

The only problem I can think of is possible damage if they're constantly banging into each other during transport if they're lying on top of one another.

Damage to bikes and car, theft alarm

Thanks a lot for the post. Nice additional info about damage. We put a towel or mat between the bikes to try and limit the damage. We are shopping for a new car and a Corolla or Matrix is at the very top of the list. I feel slightly safer with them inside the locked car. One of the more important questions I have now is about the car theft and alarm systems. Where we live, you don't want a sensitive motion alarm system; however you do want theft deterrent for both piece of mind and for the insurance anti theft discount.

Its hard to tell from descriptions like this:
Multi-function in-key remote keyless entry system with lock, unlock, panic and trunk-release functions, and remote illuminated entry if the base car comes with an Alarm devices
• Active or passive disabling devices (rendering fuel or ignition system inoperative)
• VIN number etched in glass
• Active Global Positioning System (GPS) including OnStar® or similar systems such as LoJack®.

What do you mean by standard size? Bikes are sold in many different frame sizes and now have two different wheel sizes.

You may need to remove the back wheel to reduce the length too. You can slide the forks through the opening with the seats folded down. With the front wheel removed, a 26er is just under 5 ft long so you might be able to fit one in between the front and back seats. It may be necessary to remove the back wheel too. The wheelbase is around 40-45 inches typically depending on your frame size.

I have put two 26ers in my Camry before with all wheels detached before, but I'm not sure if that helps you or not. Both where 17" frames. With only one bike, I was able to fit it with the rear wheel attached. A 29er with 19" frame, I had to take both wheels out just to get the one bike inside my Camry.

I had to take both wheels off my 17.5 inch frame of my mountain bike to make it fit and even that was tight. Not sure if 2 would fit. I had to keep the rear seats up for all my other gear. My suggestion would be either a top bike rack or a rear one or by a hatchback.

I ride bikes in my spare time and I've tried fitting in 3 (frames) in the trunk with the towel in between of each. All wheels were taken apart and put in the back seat. Fits perfectly. You just have to know how to position them. I've also used a back rack, but I've been iffy with it scratching the back of my car.
