2 quick maintenance questions from a newbie

Sorry to have such the novice question (New member), but…

(1) what do you recommend as a good set of new tires for the truck (15% off road, mostly road commute). Like to get something that’s a bit more beefy than the stock I have now (just about at 60K).
(2) 60K tune up … do folks typically go with the dealer service still? Seems like I could get the same service for ½ the price with a non dealer mechanic. Any thoughts? Any recommendations in the DC area?

Love my tuck … best investment I’ve made. Never had any problems (other than minor problems with the front mud flaps cracking; wound up just taking them off)

Any advice would help. Thanks in advance.

well i think you can go with some 265-75-16 BFG mud T/A. they're beefier than the A/T and will do better for off-road i think. i'm still running my stock 265-70-16 BFG A/T, but for sure i'm going to get the mud T/A when i switch my tires.

as for dealership stuff, i would find out what is performed in the 60k maintenance and just go somewhere else and get it done. dealerships charge way too much and i simply don't trust them. all mechanics are untrustworthy anyway in my opinion.

just my two cents.
Tires, go to TireRack.com and look at the reviews and ratings. I'm personally buying a set of Firestone Destination A/T's.

You can do just about everything (all?) in the 60K tuneup yourself.

Last but not least, the 'search' button is your friend.

I have the Nitto Terra Grapplers. Beefier than stock and great on the highway.

as far as the 60k maint, dont go to the dealer. if you are somewhat of a DIYer, try doing it yourself. if not, then go to local shop. i would only go to the dealer ofr something under warranty or TSB.

Welcome to TN. in the future, try running a search, plenty of info on both of those topics

The last set of tires I had & have always had good luck with are Toyo Oen Country A/T. They have good tread life and are reasoanbly priced.

As for 60K maintenance, stay away from Dealers, they charge way too much. Word of mouth is the best advertising. Ask around, talk to people and find a local recommended shop.
Around these parts you're primarily going to hear two opinions on tires. Bridgeston Dueler AT Revo's and BFG AT KO's. These are both good tires. I personally chose the Dueler's after seeing their ranking on TireRack.com.

You can do a search on this site and find all kinds of good info on tires. Good luck!
i'm still running my stock 265-70-16 BFG A/T, but for sure i'm going to get the mud T/A when i switch my tires.
You got stock BFG AT's?
