2000 Toyota Camry (LE - 4 Dr) Mfg: 02/2000
VIN: **********YU102877 Model: MCV20L-CEPNKA
C/TR: 1C8/FB69 Paint Color - Lunar Mist Metalic 1C8
A/TM: -02A/A541E
Model MCV20 - V6 Gas / 1MZ-FE 3.0 Litre Motor

Hope someone has the answer. Drivers side rear door damaged. Salvage yard has a good door from a 1998 Camry that they say will fit. They say the driver side rear door is the same from 1997-2001 other than color, but the rest of the door is supposed to be the same. But in looking at a picture of the outside of the door from the 1998 the door side trim piece is clearly different that what is on the 2000. The door side trim can be purchased new from Toyota, dealer says that this trim is only available primed (colors no longer available) but as shown here the door side trim piece is different on the 1998 vs the 2000 and pictures show this. Question here is, is the outside door metal/skin the same on all Camry from 1997-2000? If so any door side panel trim piece for a 1997-2000 will fit on any door, but I question this since as pics show the door side panel trim piece is clearly different on the 1998 vs the 2000. But will these trim pieces fit any door without some sort of modification?

Anyone help here? Is the outside drivers side rear metal door skin on these doors all the same (other than color) on all Camry from 1997 to 2001? If so then I can put any door from 1997-2001 on my 2000 Camry and can install the currently available side trim piece which is the wider version like what is on my 2000 now. I do not want to purchase the 1998 door from the salvage yard if the outside metal is not the same as on my 2000. I do not want to have to modify the outside of the door to fit the trim piece. Anyone? Anyone done this?

According to Toyotta dealer the Camry drivers side rear door side panel trim piece is 75742AA904 (primered). Dealer says the colored trim pieces are no longer available. In past colors were available but evidently no more.

SEE PICTUES. LOOK AT DIFFERENCE IN WIDTH SIZE OF OUTSIDE DOOR TRIM PIECE. The vehicle with the wider (wider up and down) side trim piece is the 2000, the picture with the narrower side trim piece is the 1998. See the difference, one trim piece is wider (evidently wider on the newer 2000-2001 vehicles). Question is, is the outside door metal skin that this trim piece attaches to the same on all 1997-2001? If so then any 1997-2001 trim piece will fit on any 1997-2001 Camry rear door. The wider trim piece is evidently what is available now, I assume that because my newer 2000 has the wider trim piece, but I am not really sure. Anyone?

For your 2000 Camry 4-Door Rear Driver Side (LH) Door:
  • LH Rear Door Panel Sub-Assy: 67004-AA020
  • Outside LH Rear Door Moulding: 75742-AA030-B2 (for 1C8 Lunar Mist Metallic)
  • Outside LH Rear Door Moulding: 75742-AA930 (Primered)

For a 1998 Camry 4-Door Rear Driver Side (LH) Door:
  • LH Rear Door Panel Sub-Assy: 67004-AA010
  • Outside LH Rear Door Moulding: 75742-AA010 (no suffix available for 1C8 Lunar Mist Metallic - color not available in 1998)
  • Outside LH Rear Door Moulding: 75742-AAxxx (no primered version shown available)

From data available, 67004-AA020 superseded 67004-AA010, meaning the physical doors between a 1998 and 2000 are identical.

Also from data available, 75742-AA030-xx (or 75742-AA903) and 75740-AA010 are not superseded together - so these items are physically different. 75742-AA030-xx or 75742-AA930 are found on MY 2000-2001 Camry's. So for this item, if you need just the rear driver side (LH) door moulding, you will need to find a 2000-2001 Camry to remove it from. Otherwise, if you keep the moulding on from the 1998 rear driver side (LH) door, you can, it will just look different than the one on the front driver side (LH) door.

I am thinking (but not sure) that there is one or two 2000/2001 Camry's in a salvage yard by me. This salvage yard is a pck'n-pull yard - they will not remove a part and ship it for a customer calling their place, that I am aware of. But the next time I have out there, I could search for you. Don't know how much that item would cost from the salvage yard and what the shipping cost might be though.

Thank you for your answer here. I am impressed with your knowledge. You are a great asset to this group. The question here was whether the exterior door metal panel on the rear door was the same on the 97-2001 entire Camry 4 door line, which evidently it is. If you think about it if Toyota wanted to make a change to the side door molding on this door why would they make a costly change to the exterior metal panel? I would be logical to make that change just to the molding strip, not the metal door panel, and evidently that is what Toyota did, change the molding strip. Your knowledge has verified this. I thought that the exterior metal panel was the same, but I had not been able to visit a salvage yard to view the various years with the molding strip removed.

In my original post I think I mentioned that the molding strip was not available in colors. In talking to a different dealer I find that colors are available, and was told that if the dealer enters the entire VIN number for the subject vehicle their system will offer up the molding strip in the color to match that vehicle based on the mfg. color code, the part will be painted unless a person orders the primer only part. Told costs are the same so why order the primer only strip? I am sure this is correct but will farther check it out.

As you mentioned, and as my pictures show, the early molding strip is different from the later 2000-2001 models, and yes you could leave the early years strip on an early door but as you mentioned it looks different. But as noted a new strip can be purchased, in the needed color, just the cost is the issue. Area dealer is quoting about $95 for the strip, but as I understand it the proper color strip is available.

On the door molding, I have been told that there are no “clips” holding it on, I am told that it is held on with some sort of adhesive tape (adhesive on both sides)....no clips, just the adhesive tape strip. Told to remove the molding you use like a hair dryer with heat, being careful to not get too hot to damage the paint. Unless there are some sort of clips this would be the logical way to remove the molding strip if it can even be removed without damage. I doubt that the adhesive strip is available as a part??

Great answers that you have provided. Your knowledge is great. Thank you so much. Anything else please chime in.

If you can get 75742-AA030-B2 through a Toyota Parts Dealer, for $95, that would be the way to go. I don't see many wholesalers saying they have this particular color item, but ToyotaPartsDeal.com says they have it, but they are wanting $128.95 for it. I agree, if you get one already painted, you can avoid the cost of painting in the color you need.

The adhesive on new mouldings is already on the moulding. It's a double-sided tape that has a removeable strip you peel off when ready to put it on the outside panel of your door. If you get a used one from the salvage yard, one would have to strip the old adhesive off, most likely paint it, then get a double-sided tape (many automotive paint shops will have something like that) to put on (maybe need to trim it to fit the width properly), and you are all set.

If you are getting a 1998 door from the salvage yard, you are going to need to repaint it anyway (1998 didn't have the color your car is). I'm sure the paint shop would remove your old strip and put on a correct strip for you without much additional cost.

If you find out you can't get this strip from a dealer, if you want me to check our local salvage yard if they have any 2000-2001 Camry's out there with a good rear driver side (LH) moulding, I can do that. I do have some business trips coming up that I will be traveling to participate in, but when I am not on those trips, I can look for you.

that is correct, you can reuse a door molding strip that way, also you can have it painted to match your vehicle's color too, while it is off. The tape is nothing special: 3M acrylic foam tape. Auto parts stores sell it, and auto body shops have it. Just get the right thickness, cut it to the correct width and length. Remove the old tape from the back of the strip with a heat gun and some rubbing (rubber gloves help) being careful not to damage the strip.
Clean the mating surface of the strip and apply the new tape.
Clean the surface of the door, remove the release tape and apply it carefully so there are no bends or waves.

Good as new (if you have a body shop do the door replacement and paint for you they'll do this for you too).
